Storage Committee Meeting: February 12, 2019
In attendance:
Reverend Kathryn Hawbaker
Nancy Lee (Aesthetics Committee)
Joe Baker (Building and Grounds)
Maggie Meyer, Chair
· The first item of business was to determine how many chair dollies are needed in addition to the now completed storage units. The consensus was that only one dolly is needed. One of the existing dollies will be refurbished in the spring. In the meantime both dollies will be used and stored in front of the wall units. A sign will be placed in the back left cabinet requesting that chairs not be stored in the kitchen. [Please find attached a sign. Could the next person to be in the Fellowship, please post the attached sign.]
· The next item was storage in the Bell Tower: The Committee addressed Roger Kalter's concern [See copy of February 6 -email from Roger] that storage in the Bell Tower and the Choir Loft poses a fire hazard. Joe did not think storage there poses a danger. Joe agreed to consult with Roger at the next Building and Grounds meeting and about his concerns, including Roger consulting the Fire Marshal. Joe's main concern was to stabilize the plaster in the Tower. He will take up the issue with Building and Grounds. Reverend Kat raised a concern about "signatures" on the walls of the Tower and suggested that Building and Grounds consult with Archives about them.
Joe indicated that once these issues are addressed, a final decision can be made about storage bins in both the Tower and under pews in the Choir Loft. However, Joe stated he would purchase bins for chair parts and outdoor Christmas lights. Rev Kat suggested seasonal grouping of the units. Reverend Kat added that two large easels, which were cumbersome to move between the Sanctuary and the Bell Tower, should remain in the Sanctuary. The committee agreed.
· Kat indicated that when Leroy next goes to the scrap yard, he will take the broken table beside the platforms in the Fellowship Hall, one dolly, and items placed in the upper left corner of the Choir loft
· Joe will go through the vertical material stored in a corner of the Bride's Room to remove window stop material and place the material to be discarded in the upper left corner of the Choir for Leroy.
· Mike Bailey will be consulted about the two projection screens in the Choir Loft scheduled for removal, the one in the Fellowship Hall closet, and the one in the church parlor to see if he wants any of them kept.[It was determined at an earlier meeting that the best screen is the one stored in the Fellowship Hall closet.]
· At the October 23rd meeting, the Committee voted to request that Reverend Kat also take an inventory of items in the choir loft and the Bell Tower. Reverend Kat assured the Committee that she reviewed the storage in the both locations and used the Committee's guiding principle that any items not used last year, this year, or planned for next year will be set aside for the Yard Sale, donated, or discarded. A question was raised about the Halloween materials. Reverend Kat will contact the appropriate person to see if the materials will continue to be used.
· The Committee agreed to another review of items stored in the Bell Tower and the Choir Loft before the yard sale at our next meeting.
· Shelving units in the Bride's Room will remain. The Committee agreed that the units are too cumbersome to haul up to the Tower.
· Maggie will e-mail the Committee Chairs and Gene Barry who have bulletin boards in the Fellowship Hall to 1) remove dated material once a month and 2) make sure that their bulletin Board is labelled. Reverend Kat volunteered with the help of Melissa to assist with labeling the Boards.
· The next meeting of the Storage Committee will be the first Tuesday in April (the second). Since Joe will not be here, he will ask Roger Kalter to attend in his absence.

February 6 Report from Roger Kalter, Building and Grounds
1. Thank you for sharing notes. Agreed choir loft should be clear of storage because of fire hazard. Bell tower also should not be used for storage. Sun cooks anything in there. Electric has been left plugged both in choir loft and bell tower after use. Fire hazard.
2. I will assist anytime asked to help move unused items out of church to make it more safe.
3. We need to politely discourage build up of items in
Kitchen: egg cartons, containers, stuff on counters after one time events.
We are arranging to recycle one of two rolling chair racks since addition of 3 storage areas.
Thank you to all involved with storage Committee clean up efforts. It greatly improves the appearance and safety of the church and RE. Thank you to Karen Binkley for removing all the loose and broken bricks from RE basement.
Regards, Roger, Buildings and Grounds Committee
February 17 Addendum from Nancy Lee:
Following up on our Storage Committee consensus last Tuesday, my husband and I went to the choir loft at the church on Friday and moved the big pile of Christmas items to the corner to the left of the bell tower doorway. We also moved other miscellaneous items over to the far left and far right areas of the loft so that the space is now pretty much completely clear for the airplane contest or whatever other uses may arise.
