Painting of Sanctuary
January and February are good months for the work, especially in terms of expected attendance.
We feel that the Social Hall can accommodate the services for that period of time and is the best option. Other potential places are the Betsey Mills auditorium, the large room in the Armory, or an area school. The theatres are not good choices because the stages will probably have sets on them.
It will be important to involve BRIDGES in the planning for those Sundays. They will need to hold their Large Group Activities in the RE Building instead of the Social Hall.
Social Hall Improvements
We are glad that B & G is moving to improve facilities in the Social Hall, but we are puzzled by the description provided in the B & G Committee notes.
It will be very helpful for us to have a floor plan so that we know which corners and walls are the proposed locations for the chair storage counters and the counter/cabinets for coffee hour set-up.
All groups who use the Social Hall should be consulted. The Worship & Music Committee is aware of the need to work around the platforms used for summer services as well as the piano and sound system equipment. The Technology Committee (especially Mike Bailey) needs to be consulted about space and connections for the computer and other equipment. Community Meal teams have definite space, function, and regulation needs. In addition, it is very likely that some furniture now in the Social Hall will need to be removed.
What arrangements are envisioned for storage of tables?
Mobility is an issue. The counter/cabinet units for the coffee hour set-up need to be on casters so that Community Meal servers can stand behind the food to serve it.
Committee members also wondered whether hymnal storage could be considered. For example, can casters be placed on the bookcase currently in use so that the hymnals can be rolled close to the entrance and attendees, themselves, can retrieve and replace their hymnals?
I'll be very glad to talk through these concerns with you, or you are welcome to attend our next meeting (Wednesday, September 6, Parlor, 5:00 p.m.).
