Green SAnctuary Members,

As I mentioned at our meetings, I have posed several questions to Dr.
John Staser about his research on "production waste." I did this about a
month ago and resent my origin message twice. At long last he responded
(below)...
    [REEs are rare-earth elements]

George,

Thanks for your email. This project has been labeled as “sensitive” by DOE
because it involves REEs. With recent activity at the federal agencies I am
not in communication with program officers, so I haven’t received guidance
on exactly what I can and cannot talk about prior to the public release of
project reports (relevant quarterly reports, annual reports, and project
final report).

What I can say is that we at Ohio University have an extensive background
working with produced water across multiple federally-funded projects. We
have safety training and safe operating procedures in place that are
followed by all involved. We also perform extensive characterization of the
produced water samples, so we know what chemical species are present and
take appropriate safety precautions when working with these samples.

Thanks for your email and let me know if you have other questions.--John
