Famous Universalist minister Hosea Ballou argued with a Methodist colleague
over the issue of eternal damnation. The Methodist asserted, “If I were a
Universalist and feared not the fires of hell, I could hit you over the
head, steal your horse and saddle and ride away, and I’d still go to
heaven!” Ballou answered (read on.....)

*Donations Sought for Service Auction*

It's time to start thinking about what you'd like to donate to our biggest
fundraiser of the year. There are three categories: Live auction, silent
auction, and set price. (No country store this year.) Especially popular
are events that feature food! This can be as simple as a country-style
dinner, a picnic, an ethnic adventure, garden party...you get the idea. Not
able to host a party, but love to cook? Offer your specialty to be prepared
and delivered to the winning bidder. We're also fond of games - card party,
puzzle competition...how about charades? Outdoor adventures - bird walk,
nature hike, kayak/canoe trip, bike tour, local history tour. And let's not
forget services - car wash, simple will, handyman, genealogy, chauffeur,
dog walking/petsitting...to name but a few. Art, jewelry, food, useful
things, unique things, garden decor make good silent auction items. Really
special ones make good live auction items. Auction catalog creator Cindy
Brown's deadline for items is March 29. A form with the info she needs to
prepare bid sheets and the catalog is available in the FUUSM social hall
and from the church lady You can fill out an actual form or send the
information Cindy needs as an email to: labrown at gmail.com.

*SAVE COFFEE HOUR!*
Canceling Coffee Hour for lack of servers/cleaner uppers is not really on
the table, but things are getting desperate. To encourage people to help,
some have suggested:

1. Ending Coffee Hour at 1 p.m. instead of 1:30.
2. Restricting the Coffee Hour buffet to finger-foods only: cookies,
grapes, rabbit food, cheese & crackers--things that do not require a fork
or plate. That way, cleanup would just be coffee mugs, tongs, and a few
spoons.
3. Coffee Hour service doesn't have to begin at 10:30, now that the service
is streamed in the social hall. Servers can begin set up at 11:30. So, even
if we continue to end at 1:30--that's just a 2-hour shift.

Remember, the Coffee Hour crew is not obligated to bring foodstuffs (just
creamer if we are lacking it.) If you are willing to help out--just six
times per year (the first, second, third, or fourth week of every even or
every odd month), please contact Dawn Hewitt (dawnbirder at gmail.com, or just
talk to her). As of right now, 13 of 27 slots are full. That means we need
14 more volunteers.

Ballou answered, “If you were a Universalist, the idea (of harming someone
and stealing their horse) would never occur to you!”
