*Thanks for the Vacuum!*
Thanks to Stephanie (Squish) Rector for donating her vacuum! And thanks to
others who offered theirs. Wendy-the-building-steward says this one works
great and is lighter than the dying one, so easier to vacuum the steps.
*Please Turn In Your Pledge Form!*
Most of you should have received a pledge form in the mail recently. If you
didn't, please talk to George Banziger or the church lady! At our annual
meeting in April, our t
Treasurer and Finance Committee will present a budget for the fiscal year
that begins on July 1. How much money will they be able to allocate for our
expenses? The best way for our financial team to plan for what we can
afford in the upcoming year is if our members and friends *pledge-*-inform
them of how much they will donate in the upcoming fiscal year. Pledges
allow them to plan. Please *pledge*, and then consider it a commitment.
*Special Event on Conflict Resolution, 1 p.m. Feb. 25*
At our Sunday service on Feb. 25, Janice Terry, PhD, a Marietta College
professor and expert on Middle East affairs, will provide the reflection,
titled* Israel and Palestine: The 2023 Gaza War.* At 1 p.m., an extended
discussion on conflict resolution will begin in the social hall, with
George Banziger moderating. All are welcome to attend, but coffee hour
lingerers will need to join the discussion or relocate!
*Help Needed Sweeping River Trail* (just a short section, just four times a
year)
Under the capable coordination of Darryl Ting, the Green Sanctuary
Committee is committed to our "adoption" of Marietta's River Trail through
East Muskingum Park, from the Putnam Street tunnel to where the trail hits
the Front Street sidewalk. Six teams of two people sweep the trail twice in
two months. We lost three participants recently, so we are in need of two
people who will commit to sweeping the trail twice every March, and twice
every September, as well as someone to take one of Darry's double-duty
shifts, either with Mike Lang in April and October, or with George Banziger
in June and December. Each sweep normally takes only about 30 minutes, and
pedestrians and cyclists who pass by are so very grateful. (So, we're
asking for a volunteer commitment of roughly 2 hours *per year!*!) Or,
maybe you'd be willing to be a sub...?
Scope of work:
- Cleaning frequency of twice a month, roughly two weeks apart.
- Minimum requirement: keep the paved surface clear. Pick up all trash
and natural debris (e.g., leaves, twigs and sweetgum balls) from the paved
surface of the trail.
- If you have the time, also clear a foot out from the edge of the
pavement (to make the cleaning last longer).
- Natural debris can be deposited on the riverbank edge of the park.
- Trash can be put in the park trash containers or those outside FUUSM.
- If seasonal debris gets heavy, call for additional help from the sub
list.
- If you can’t make it, trade or find a substitute from the sub list.
Here are the existing teams, and kudos to all of them for their dedication
to this worthy project:
1. Chris & Kelcey Jacobs: Jan & Nov
2. Dawn Hewitt & Tim Finkel: Feb & Aug
3. Vacant: Mar & Sept
4. *Darryl Ting* & Mike Lang: Apr & Oct
5. Jim Grecni & Debra Miller: May & July
6. George Banziger & *Darryl Ting*: June & Dec
Subs: Vic Elam, Mark Krivchenia.
*If you are willing to help, please contact Darryl Ting at
darrting1 at gmail.com <darrting1 at gmail.com>. *Dawn and Tim plan to sweep on
Feb. 24, weather permitting, so if you'd like to accompany them just to see
what it's like, contact Dawn at dawnbirder at gmail.com.
- At the particularly raucous congregational meeting, one UU turned to the
other and said "Nobody will mistake us for an organized religion!"
