Thinking of starting some new activities for the New Year?
1. The meditation group that meets at noon on Wednesdays in the parlor of
the Religious Education building is now incorporating movement meditation
along with the guided meditations and music. You're welcome any Wednesday.
2. The Learning in Retirement program at Marietta College is starting a
new set of classes next week. Email me if you want to be added to the
mailing list. This isn't a Church activity as such, but most of the
leadership is affiliated with the Church.
3. The Today's Issues group will be resuming its regular discussions, a
chance to broaden our horizons intellectually. This Sunday, January 5,
2020, we will discuss two essays.
>From the NYR Daily, Matt Seaton, “The Strange Death of Social-Democratic
England,” discussing the recent British election and the parallels with the
the upcoming U.S. election. The essay can be read password free on the NYR
site,
<https://www.nybooks.com/daily/2019/12/12/the-strange-death-of-social-democratic-england/>
or in a convenient printer-friendly format with fewer pictures here

.
>From the December 19, 2019 issue, page 14, Sue Halpern, “The Drums of
Cyberwar <https://www.nybooks.com/articles/2019/12/19/drums-of-cyberwar/>,”
a review of Sandworm: A New Era of Cyberwar and the Hunt for the Kremlin’s
Most Dangerous Hackers by Andy Greenberg which covers recent cyberwar
incidents and the risks of cyberwar escalating to full scale cyberwarfare.
Read the article to understand this distinction. The essay can be read on
the NYR site without a password, just click here
<https://www.nybooks.com/articles/2019/12/19/drums-of-cyberwar/>.
The group meets in the parlor of the Religious Education Building next door
to the church at 9:30 most Sunday mornings. The next meeting will be on
January 5, 2020. Please do the very interesting reading and join our lively
discussion, all are welcome!
