PRELUDE - from: Children's Corner Suite - Dr. Gradus ad Parnassum -
Claude Debussy

In this first movement of six, Debussy satirizes piano
technical exercises; specifically, Gradus ad Parnassum, Op.44 by Muzio
Clementi, a set of 100 exercises. Scales, arpeggios, etudes, etc., are
dreaded by many piano students. For me the middle section represents a
child's brief distracting and wistful daydream to go play outside (or do
anything else); then, back to the boring drudgery.
