OFFERTORY - Sechs kleine Klavierstucke (Six Little Piano Peces) Op.19, 1911
- Arnold Schoenberg
The atonality in these miniatures predates Schoenberg's later
development of dodecaphonicism; i.e., twelve-tone composition. The first
five were written in one day, and the last added as a tribute to Gustave
Mahler, a composer of massive orchestral works, after hearing of his death;
yin musically counterbalancing yang.
