Minutes for May 5, 2021 Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee
In Attendance: Adeline Bailey, Kat Hawbaker, Martha McGovern, Suzyn Mills, Nancy Luthy

Theme for 2020- 2021:  How can we be mindful and authentic in cherishing all life? 

Chalice Lighting:  Begin each day with optimism and end each day with forgiveness. 
1. Minutes of  April were approved.
2. Moving Forward with Virtual Worship and Return to In-Church Services:  What are next steps??
GUIDELINES FOR DESIGNING/PREPARING WORSHIP SERVICE: Martha will make revisions and send in a separate email.  
3. Correspondence:  Thank you note has been sent to Green Sanctuary.  
4. Reflection on Services – Progress on suggestions?

5. Financial Matters:  The Committee approved a donation of $250 to UU The Vote from the Worship & Music account.  Kat will complete the donation online and request reimbursement. 
The Committee authorized Martha Webster to spend up to $250 for the purchase of 800 boxes to store Choir music.   Martha Webster will send information to Martha McG so that a request for payment can be submitted.
6. Budget 2021-2022:  Total - $3,440.00         
[2020-2021 Budgeted: $2859.94,  Actual through Feb.: $ 1,666.68]
7. Annual Meeting –  no concerns  
8. Choir/Music Update:  Suzyn’s  suggestion for a totally music service presented by the Choir will be revisited after the Choir regroups in May.  Title idea: Why Do We Sing?
9. The Committee decided to ask committees/groups to reflect on how they are, or intend to be, mindful and authentic in cherishing all life and then to be a part of, or to take responsibility for, a worship service on that 2020-2021 theme.  The Committee hopes that this approach will deepen insight into the purpose of the committee/group, will increase involvement of members/friends, and will inform the congregation of the activities of the committees/groups.  
Martha will report as she makes follow-up contacts with the Board, Board of Trust Governors, Caring Committee, Building & Grounds, Membership, BRIDGES, Finance.
10. Personnel Evaluations and Recommendations pertaining to pay– The Board has asked that the W & M Committee take responsibility for evaluating the Choir Director and the Pianist.  We discussed how well Martha Webster has met the requirements in the job description.  Martha will write up the evaluation based upon that discussion.   Kat will provide the job description and the 2020 evaluation she completed  for Pianist.  The Committee recommended in March that, in these unsettled times, the pay for both Choir Director and Pianist remain the same for the 2021-2022 fiscal year.  However, if funds are available, both the Choir Director and Pianist should receive at least a cost of living raise. Martha will submit the final forms of both evaluations to the Board.

	David Torbett is willing to be speaker this summer, date to be determined.
