Minutes of July 1, 2020 Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee
Next Meeting: Wednesday, July 15, 5:30 p.m.
In Attendance: Adeline Bailey, Kat Hawbaker, Nancy Luthy, Martha McGovern, Suzyn Mills ??others?
1.. Minutes for June meeting were approved.
2.. Andrew McKnight for Zoom worship service on July 19, 2020: FUUSM account will be used to air the service.
Payment of $200 was approved. Martha will submit the request to mail the check to him.
To avoid copyright issues, Suzyn will request Andrew's explicit permission to share his music over Zoom, Facebook, Youtube.
3.. Theme for 2020- 2021: How can we be mindful and authentic in cherishing all life?
4.. Goal of Maintaining Sense of Community: Use of a Call Tree Nancy Luthy will follow up with Chris to see how to make contact with the few members/friends who do not have email.
5.. Moving Forward with Virtual Worship and Return to In-Church Services: What are next steps??
· ???Committee position on live in-church services: In an abundance of caution, we will hold no live, in-church services until conditions in the larger community can make doing so safe.
· Ralph reported that he and Mike Bailey are looking into purchase of a video camera and methods of including musical elements that retain high quality in transmission. Nancy Luthy shared that the Board is supportive of our efforts and will provide necessary funds.
· Kat shared information about a service called Worshipcast that deals with copyright issues for music. She will investigate further and report.
· The Board task force is establishing guidelines for returning to in-church services and for use of the church buildings by outside groups.
· Task Force request: How to deal with Choir, special music (report to Roger Kalter) The Committee recommends that in-church services a. have attendees wear masks and hum hymns; b. limit musical performances - whether vocal or instrumental - to small groups (solo - trio), perhaps by family groups; c. pre-record performances for sharing on TV screen.
6.. The committee agreed that Ted Goertzel's suggestion to offer Current Issues - a weekly discussion group on Zoom was a good one. Participants may be a resource for a worship service, perhaps as early as July 26.
7.. Reflection on Service - Father's Day
What went well: unified, excellent statements about fathers, touching choices of musical pieces
What to refine: quality of music transmission (observation that Zoom seems to handle slow,
simple pieces with more clarity), copyright issues for posting
