Agenda for June 5,  2019  Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee 

Parlor, 5:00 p.m.

Deadline for combined July-August Confluence is June 18.

  1.. Minutes of May meeting to be approved 
  2.. Correspondence:  Martha has sent thank you notes to the guest speakers - Ron Tepley, LeeAnn Gallucci, Peg Clifford, Karen Binkley. 
  3.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:  
    1.. Aesthetics Team:

    3.. Worship Associates Team:  
    4.. Piano Task Force: Suzyn 
    5.. Technology Task Force: 
    6.. Task Force for the Time for All Ages:  
  4.. Coordination with Buildings & Grounds: Martha sent memo to B & G about attention to lift (providing new cover, enclosing lift, replacing current lift with improved one). 
  5.. Expenditures:  Donation of $500 to Multicultural Festival was approved by the  Board.  Gene Barry reimbursed for transportation costs for Farmer Tantoh ($280.41). 
  6.. Budget Proposal - how the proposed budget for 2019-2020 aligns with what was approved. 
  7.. Outside Greeters - The W & M Committee recommends that Membership Committee add greeters outside in order to identify need for the lift and to facilitate its use.  Adeline will communicate the basis for the recommendation to the Membership Committee.  
The Committee also identified the  need for a "lift orientation" so that all Worship Associates and Greeters are familiar with how to operate the lift.  Action plan??

  8.. New Theme for 2019-2020:  How do we address the paradox of "We"?  
The Committee had a lively and clarifying discussion of the meaning of the theme question.  The discussion included examination of the concepts individualist/collectivist and the Self.

  9.. Services for  April - August:  
·        clarification of various service/outreach activities of the local congregation and endeavors with UUA, UUSC, etc. and their relationship with FUUSM principles, mission

Need for tracking and regular reporting? For example in Finance Committee records and Annual Meeting  report??   Do our church finances align with our mission?

·        Katy McDaniel - Dark Tourism (responsibility of deity or humans?)  Martha will check for other dates in July or August.

·        Consolidation reflection for services related to theme for 2018-19 - Kat end of August

·        On the day of the Planetarium visit, the topic for the Cozy Conversation will be the theme question for 2018-19:  How can we inspire leaders for a complex world?  Martha will coordinate with BRIDGES.

·        Paradox of "We" - Becky Wright is willing to teach dance that illustrates the concept.  (306 Fifth Street)   Idea for TRANSITION service:  "Who Is the Leader in the Dance of 'We'"?  She is available until August 23.  (740) 373-2132  oreo1506 at suddenlink.net  306 Fifth Street

The Committee agreed to use #592 The Free Mind by William Ellery Channing as the guiding reading for the thematic year.
