Minutes for Wednesday, March 7, 2018 Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee
In Attendance: Adeline Bailey, Kat Hawbaker, Randy Kidder, Martha McGovern, Shari Miller, Suzyn Mills
1.. Minutes of the February meeting were approved.
2.. Correspondence: Thank you notes have been sent to those who participated in the World Interfaith Harmony service.
3.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:
1.. Aesthetics Team: Kat projected that the new banner will be unveiled in May.
2.. Special Music Team: Suzyn overviewed a line-up of quartet for March 25, solo by LeRoy McCarty for Easter, and Choir on March 18 and April 1.
Last Sunday in September: Andrew McKnight -- degree of involvement TBD
3.. Worship Associates Team:
4.. Piano Task Force: Suzyn reported that she and Randy have researched piano options for the Social Hall and have settled on a digital electronic instrument (Yamaha 635 from C. A. House Music) that will cost $2855. Funds will come from the Piano Fund and the General Music Fund. Randy is planning a fundraiser recital, perhaps in May, to replenish the Piano Fund.
5.. Technology Task Force:
6.. Task Force for the Time for All Ages:
3.. Folder: Adeline Bailey observed that additional copies of the reusable folder are needed and that information needs to be revised. The Committee granted her permission and funds to take the necessary steps.
4.. Coordination with Buildings & Grounds:
5.. Board policy concerning special collections: Shari reported that decisions about special collections will be determined on a case by case basis. The Committee recommended that a procedure for that decision-making be established. Usually Kat Hawbaker oversees development of a service and can determine whether a special collection is reasonable, but lay-led services in her absence may not automatically pass through her supervision.
6.. Social Justice and Communication: Kat reported that Community Resource Guides are available at the Greeters table so that congregation members can be clear about immediate responses and have access to referral information.
7.. Expenditures: The Committee approved stipends for Jean Ambrose ($75), Samuel Prince ($150), and Meg and Todd Hoke ($150 + $50 = $200).
8.. Budget Proposal for 2018-19: The Committee approved a budget request for $4315, which will be sent to Linda Lawton immediately.
9.. Annual Report: The Committee finalized the report, which will be submitted before the April meeting.
10.. Theme for Year 2018-2019: After lively discussion, the Committee settled on “How can we inspire leaders for a complex world?”
11.. 2017-18 “How do we create a world of our values?”
