Subject: The Mystical Arts of Tibet with Tibetan monks

Good afternoon Rev. Hawbaker,

My name is Irene Lee with Drepung Loseling Monastery located in Atlanta, GA.  For over 27 years, we’ve organized The Mystical Arts of Tibet tours where we bring 7-11 Tibetan Buddhist monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery in India to share their ancient Tibetan spiritual tradition and culture while promoting peace and healing on their world tours.  Our tour is going to be in the Ohio area and we would like to explore the possibility of collaborating with you to bring the Mystical Arts of Tibet programs and the Drepung Loseling monks to Marietta this June or some other time in the near future.

We have worked with all types of organizations including universities, performing and visual art centers, theaters, museums, etc. that present art and cultural programs for their communities.   We have also collaborated with a number of churches like yours that provides opportunities to bring people together and provides programs for developing and enhancing inner peace and spiritual growth.  One of the most popular programs we’ve found that brings people together has been the Mandala Sand Painting live exhibition; over a four-day to a week long residency,  members and the general public can watch an exquisite and mesmerizing mandala sand painting be created from start to finish.

With the mandala sand painting exhibition, there is also an opportunity to bring children and parents together in a fun engaging Community Sand Art project like the one at Bud Werner Memorial Library below.

Other popular programs for shorter visits have been the prayer ceremonies (pujas) that the monks perform where you can hear their unique style of multi-phonic chants and educational lectures.  Occasionally when there is a larger facility available with sufficient space and stage, we may also be able to offer the Sacred Music Sacred Dance performance programs where people can watch the monks perform sacred ritual dances in colorful costumes and listen to their multi-phonic chants accompanied by music from traditional Tibetan instruments.

I’ve included below links to a wonderful CNN YouTube video that shows our monks making a mandala at Emory University’s Carlos Museum in just a couple of minutes (normally take 4-5 days).   I’ve also included links to a few other places where you can view videos or photos of where the Drepung Loseling monks have performed Sacred Music Sacred Dance performance, Mandala Sand Painting exhibition and other programs:
