Agenda for March 1, 2017 Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee
1.. Minutes of the February meeting - corrections and approval
2.. Correspondence: Shari
3.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:
1.. Aesthetics Team: Martha Nancy Lee and Gillian Harrison, along with Jane
Tumas-Serna, have agreed to serve on the Aesthetics Team. Amy Miller was suggested as another potential member.
2.. Special Music Team: Suzyn will schedule Blake Hubbard for a Sunday in February and will coordinate the performance of "Quiet" for the March 26 service.
3.. Worship Associates Team: Andrew Clovis, Amy Miller, Gene Barry, and Dawn Hewitt have expressed interest in serving as Worship Associates. How shall we structure their entry into the role?
4.. Piano Task Force: Suzyn
5.. Technology Task Force: Adeline shared information from a past report from Ralph Olander and Mike Bailey which helped the committee determine our budget request for technology. It appears that stable stands for the projector and screen are immediate needs as well as more versatile projection equipment. Other purchases will need to be coordinated with long term sanctuary renovations.
6.. Task Force for the Time for All Ages:
7.. De-Clutter Corps: Martha The Saturday, March 25 meeting of the De-Clutter Corps will be devoted to organizing the holiday decoration materials. The group will gather at 1:00 p.m.
3.. Selection of Specific Lamp for Piano: Shari
4.. Update on FUUSM attire - John reported that he will take orders for t-shirts in February. Basically, the shirts are $15 each or 2 for $25. (Size 2X will cost $17 each or 2 for $29.) People need to pay as they order. He will order 100 shirts. Action Items: Kat will create a poster for display. John will make announcements in the sanctuary. John will set up a table with sample shirts, and John and Tabatha will take orders during coffee hour.
5.. Opportunity: Marcia McFee will be giving a workshop in Pittsburgh, April 8, 2017 "Designing Worship like a Filmmaker" Kat will update on the request to the Board for set up of a budget line for leadership development funds for members/friends of the congregation. The committee encourages one fund at the Board level rather than multiple lines at the committee level because 1) the funds may not be needed by a committee each year and 2) leadership development often involves multiple areas of congregational life.
6.. Budget - donation of Danner stipend to specific project - which one?
7.. Proposed Budget for 2017-18: The proposed budget is due March 1. Please see the attached draft of the budget. We'll discuss and vote at the meeting, so we can meet the deadline.
8.. Re-Usable Folder: Kat
9.. Theme for Year 2016-17: "What does democracy look like?"
10.. Explanation of Worship & Music Requests
1. Music, Other: Costs of sheet music and downloads for last year were $425.
2. Piano Maintenance: Randy now has an electronic keyboard for practice, so the cost for tuning the practice piano once per year has been eliminated.
3. Worship Program:
· The standard pay for an ordained minister as guest speaker has risen to $250.00.
· Part of the pianist's compensation is six paid Sundays off, but music is so critical to the worship service that we have needed to pay a substitute pianist $100 for each of those Sundays.
4. Worship Supplies:
· Worship & Music Committee has identified the need for more stable stands for both the projector and screen in the sanctuary and for more versatile projection equipment.
· The Committee also established an Aesthetics Task Team and realizes that they need a budget to acquire resources for beautification of the Sanctuary.
