Re:                  Compensation for pianist

Music is an essential and integral part of our worship services, and Randall Kidder's contributions to those musical elements are extraordinary.  We understand that FUUSM's financial resources are constrained, but we would like to encourage the Finance Committee and Board to make arrangements for  compensation that are cost effective and also support high quality worship services and reflect the value of his contributions.  

Specifically, we are not convinced that the decision to award an additional Sunday off with pay in lieu of a pay raise meets those criteria.  The quality of the worship service is diminished without Randall at the piano, and giving an additional paid day off seems to send a mixed message about how much his musical gift is appreciated.  Furthermore, the Worship & Music Committee budget often must absorb the cost for a substitute pianist on those days off.  Money is not being saved; the cost is just felt in a different place in the budget.
