Three springs ago, I talked Jay into hosting (I did not mis-use this verb) a pair of peafowl. I did my research before the hen (Petunia), and cockerel (Mr. Peabody) arrived. The goal was to raise baby peafowl.

The dream was erased after 10 weeks when a raccoon ate through two layers of chicken wire and, after quite a struggle, Mr. Peabody was killed. I cried my eyes out as I gathered up over 250 of his incredible tail feathers.

Next came Rumi, and on the second day he was free to roam the grounds - he left.  Wandered off into the woods. That was crushing.

For 10 months he periodically haunted me. About a month after he took off - he emerged from the woods and walked right down the lane in front of me.  But he was taunting me, as a few minutes later he ambled back into the woods.  It was another three months before I heard him calling from the valley below our house.  Eight months later I saw him in the harvested corn field down the road.  

Then about a week after the virus lock down, Rumi reappeared.  He roosted each night in the tree near our privy - and he is acting like he's always lived with us.

The beauty of that creature and his confident behavior have provided constant entertainment. We report each day on what he's doing, or where he is hanging out. I'm studying his patterns and habits, and honestly the information that was available prior to keeping peafowl was mostly wrong. He's our rock star and we are in his power.

Can it be that spring is finally here? Personally I am ready to wear a t-shirt and sandals – to be honest I was ready for that last October.

The critters know it's spring, and Petunia and Penelope have each laid an egg...I can see peafowl chicks in my future.

A Note from Jay and Me:  

The little things are what makes life grand.

We've spent the past two months moving BRS to the virtual world by taking the Free School, the Bodacious Woman Event and now the Solar Installer Certification class online.

Some of our former interns have come to our rescue to re-invent the Free School plus provide some world-class teaching (check it out at the Blue Rock Station Youtube channel). We've had to learn many new things, unlearn a few, and find a new level of patience with each other as we fight the frustration of slow broadband, lack of knowledge, and sometimes stupid people.

More changes are coming, but we have found that the life we live really can sustain us. Whatever it is we appreciate hearing about your life.
