[ ]( # ) Charting a New Path Forward -  May2020

Believe it or not, I am clear about how we will go forward from this point.

My confidence in where we're going comes from a realization that it seems we're at the point where even the government has stopped pretending that they are coming to help us. Here at Blue Rock Station we have long argued that each of us must be aware of our inpact on others and the planet - and must be resilient enough to weather the inevitable disruptions we will face.  As I like to say in our weekly podcasts - "Nobody is coming to rescue you!"

I was briefly impressed with Ohio's governor's response to the crisis. But politicians inevitably disappoint - so today I am once again a realist. Solutions are nearly always local in nature - and it doesn't get any more local than looking in the mirror.  Each of us has to have a plan and needs to be resilient enough to work that plan.

Many people dream of things returning to "normal" - whatever that means.  My hope is that we take this experience and create a new normal.  One that is compassionate and sustainable.

Now is the time to move forward with an agenda that plugs the holes revealed by the virus crisis. At Blue Rock Station we are trying to practice what we preach. When there is an opportunity to speak up, we are making the time. When local groups are looking for solutions - and they really are - we have been offering our ideas (whether they want them or not). Now is the time to make your voice heard... because the local folks are searching for answers, they are actually listening... and you just might have the one idea that fits the bill.

It is indeed the end of the world as we've known it... and thank God. .

[ ]( # ) Where's the silver lining in all of this?
[ ]( # )

One of the best things that's happened for us during the crisis is that some of our former interns have resurrected the Blue Rock Station Free School online.

Each Sunday from 5 pm to 6 pm (Eastern) one of them is teaching a topic relevent to today's need for resiliency. This weekend (May 10th) Nicholas Anderson is teaching basic survival skills. Next weekend Ilana Warner will teach how to make a basic mask from a t-shirt, and some starter sewing techniques to create a fancier mask.

If you want to join in the fun - email [ annie at bluerockstation.com ]( mailto:annie at bluerockstation.com?subject=Free%20School ) to register.

We'd love to hear about your silver lining moments.

A Note from Jay and Me:

This past month, the days seem to have a more natural rhythm to them... something I have longed for.

After a brief meltdown a week ago, I was able to find my center again. We're eight weeks into quarantine - having not left Blue Rock Station.  Our lifestyle is made for this type of situation, but what about everybody else?

My bottle fed baby, Gus told me to stop worrying so much and focus on what is important - which is him of course (as he is a goat).

Jay's still working hard on getting the solar installer classes online, and chopping wood.

Whatever it is we appreciate hearing about your life.

Just for today: I will make enough food for lunch tomorrow, then I don't have to prepare lunch or eat out, saving time and energy (both mine and the energy used to cook the food).
