A Goat's Guide to Sheltering in Place...

Hopefully we are all using this period of disruption to do a bit of soul seraching.  Our normal routine is disrupted, and we search to put something in its place.

It's probably the Goat Guide to Life that keeps pointing me going in the right direction. Here's what the goats have taught me about life:

Take care of yourself first, then take good care of those you love. Be kind to others, no matter how many times they have head butted you. Don't forget that you are a part of a herd, so use your horns for good. Have fun no matter how serious life becomes - because anything is possible. Get out into nature and try new things at least once. Savor everything that happens, just in case there's something in it for you. Everybody needs someone – so don't forget to connect with your herd friends on a regular basis. You don't know everything - that's the reason to be a part of the herd.

I thought about all of these guidelines that rule the life of a goat as I walked back from the barn after chores.

As the dogs chased each other down the lane, barking their fool heads off because they know it's time for their dinner, I realized that I have nothing to mourn right now, even though it may at times seem like I do.

To get through this crisis we all face, I need to savor all of the normal things that are happening in my life. Those normal things, like the dogs' daily tumble hoping to be first in for dinner after chores - are what makes life worthwhile.

Nothing about that has changed. I've been practicing being "in the moment" these past four weeks without even realizing it. .

Where's the silver lining in all of this?

This week's silver lining is that people are getting outdoors.

Whether it is boredom or that the weather has improved or, maybe, just maybe it's because we're seeking some sort of normalcy, and nature surely can provide that if we're looking for it.

We've been drinking tea, and enjoying the breeze on the Overlook more regularly. The forest garden is beginning to take shape with the harvesting of the willow trees, and clearing the soil off of the top of the Blue Loo in anticipation of the new metal roof.

There's sunshine in the forecast for the next couple of days so find a reason to join us in solidarity by taking a walk, riding your bike, or resting on your front porch.
We'd love to hear about your silver lining moments.
A Note from Jay and me:

Our last newsletter brought several responses from people we've never heard from before. The writers shared what they were planting, or how things are going in their town. It was all good news in some form or fashion. We also heard from old friends from different places in the world sharing how the virus is impacting their lives – good and bad. Whatever it is we appreciate hearing about your life.

Kindest Regards, Annie
Words that Guided

Just for today, I will be grateful for deep relaxing breaths.
