Ralph, your post makes me realize how fortunate your son is that you and 
Maureen provide a "home base" as he navigates the ups and downs that life 
presents us.
And it also made me reflect on my own life and how grateful I am for the 
stable home my parents provided that served as both a springboard and a 
sanctuary -- after the initial "launch," rarely actually used but often 
recognized as a possible "if necessary" resource and thus steadying my 
resolve.
My youngest brother is having a similar experience with his sons --  
expressing thankfulness both that the family home is a base and that 
circumstances provide extra time to be together.
