Why don't seashells take baths?

*Thanks from Dawn*

Huge thanks to all those who covered for me, keeping the FUUSM office open
while I was having a fabulous vacation last week (Nancy Luthy, Nancy Lee,
Katie McGlynn, Shari Ballantyne, and Betsy Kalter); to my wonderful dog
sitter (also Betsy) and cat sitter (Nohl Johnson)! Because they wash up on
the beach (seashells, that is--not my helpers!).

Sewer line under repair

Pioneer Pipe is actively replacing the sewer line that runs from the
basement of the sanctuary building, through a massive infestation of tree
roots, and to the sewer main on Third Street. The sidewalk in front of the
main entrance to the sanctuary is gone, and a trench at least 7 feet deep
is open. The job is expected--but not guaranteed--to be completed by
Wednesday. Meanwhile, there is no water or sewer service in the sanctuary
building.

Labor Day as summer’s last hurrah, but this national holiday, established
by Congress in 1894, gives us an opportunity to honor our nation’s workers
and to recognize their contributions to the well-being of the country. In
our current days of societal changes and disruption, what role do unions
play? Calling on his experience, Eric Engle, chief steward of National
Treasury Employees Union Chapter 190, will explain his stand that unions
are more than just service organizations and that there can be no democracy
without working-class solidarity. Chapter 190 represents workers at the
Bureau of Fiscal Services in Parkersburg.
   -

Coffee hour! Social hall. Ends at 1 p.m.
