Sad News
We’ve learned that Geannie Martin has died. Although she shared her
journey with us for a short time over this last year, she was ever
hopeful for a positive response at CHIPSA in addressing cancer, and
worked hard for her own health and well-being on many levels.
She found FUUSM when she needed us to hold her in hope and healing, and
we did, affirming her inherent worth and dignity when her confidence
needed a boost. Great appreciation to all who welcomed her and offered
support.
It was a joy to meet her and discuss the important aspects of life and
meaning. I delighted in her renewed spirit, embodied in the vibrant
yellow VW bug she drove across the great distance (from the Pomeroy
area) to be with us on Sunday mornings and beyond.
Her educational background was in information technology and networking
and she earned a degree and worked in the School of Education at
University of Rio Grande, OH. She was the sole proprietor and genius of
Fairleigh Farms, a woman-owned commercial and retail grower of landscape
plants and perennials. Gean will be mourned and greatly missed.
Geannie had great ideas and the drive to implement them. She offered
her skills to FUUSM as a "creative problem solver with the ability to
increase productivity, reduce costs, improve morale and customer
satisfaction". May we inspired by her time and presence among us, and
do the same. In the end, her energy waned and she could not do all she
wanted to do. We will remember her.
Your minister, Rev. Kathryn Hawbaker
First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta
