The Today's Issues group meets at 9:30 on Sunday mornings in person in the
parlor of the Religious Education buildings next to the church and on Zoom
at:

The group will not meet on Sunday, June 19 because the Church is holding a
potluck gathering in Parkersburg City Park together with the Multicultural
Festival.
For Sunday, June 26 we will discuss the essay “The Birchers and the Trumpers
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ab7fJnyPkbHzv5c8ITSDX3GL_9DIzYaGf4mZ33XZ6U4/edit?usp=sharing>,”
from the June 23 issue of the New York Review of Books. A new biography of
Robert Welch traces the origins and history of the conspiracy-obsessed
anti-Communist John Birch Society and, in the process, provides historical
perspective on the far-right populism of the Trump era.
This relates to the ongoing January 6 riot hearing.
We will also resume our discussion of the issue of fracking and injection
wells. This is of particular concern in Washington County, and several
church members have been involved in local hearings on the issue. Our
first reading, Washington County Injection Well News

is from the Marietta Times.
Readings which go into the geology and economics of fracking are:
>From the Allegheny Front WHY FRACK WASTEWATER INJECTED UNDERGROUND DOESN’T
ALWAYS STAY THERE
