2021 DRAFT STATEMENT OF CONSCIENCE

After three years of study and action on the 2018-2021 Congregational Study/Action Issue
Undoing Systemic White Supremacy: A Call to Prophetic Action, the General Assembly delegates will vote this June whether to adopt the draft Statement of Conscience (SOC), prepared by the Commission on Social Witness with feedback from congregations. Adopted Statements of Conscience focus the efforts of UU congregations and other UU groups on the topic of the SOC, shape the meaning of contemporary Unitarian Universalism, and empower the UUA staff to lobby our positions in pending legislation.

Read the draft Statement of Conscience (SOC) Undoing Systemic White Supremacy: A Call to Prophetic Action on the UUA website.

This Sunday May 9, 2021 Mother’s Day All Children Are Our Children -Reflection by Alice Stewart

Worship Leader: Rev. Kathryn Hawbaker

FUUSM member and Children’s Services Director for Washington County Alice Stewart will offer the reflection. Slogans of this era remind us of a communal focus on children It Takes a Village to Raise a Child used as a title for Hillary R. Clinton’s book, and the No Child Left Behind campaign from Marian W. Edelman - the Children’s Defense League. Indigenous people have long used the measure of impact on seven generations for their decisions. How shall we teach our children well?

• Virtual Choir presentation: When We Sing

FUUSM Happenings

Women's Group Returns To In-Person Meeting Wed. May 12 The FUUSM women's group will return to in-person meetings beginning in May, weather and the Covid situation permitting. Our May 12 meeting will be held outdoors at Debra Miller's home, 113 Rae Avenue in Devola at 6:30 p.m. Bring your own food (we have decided not to hold our usual feast at this time) and lawn chair. In case of inclement weather, the meeting will be held via Zoom using the Main/Sunday Service Link. One topic of discussion will be whether to continue a Zoom subgroup, perhaps small-group discussions of particular topics.

The Cherish ALL Life Project You’re invited to make a mini movie on your phone to investigate this years’ theme question: How can we be mindful and authentic in cherishing all life? I am asking members and friends to make a short movie, so we as viewers can experience the life of the one who creates the movie. Photos are welcome and will be in the final product but try a short movie. Send your movie to me – Jane Tumas-Serna (jtumas.serna at gmail.com)

LOOKING AHEAD
