Transgender Day of Remembrance Prayer
By Sunshine Jeremiah Wolfe - Dir. of Congregational Life for Central East Region, UUA
Friday November 20, 2020

On this Transgender Day of Remembrance,
we remember those who have been murdered for being who they are,
those who face violence on a daily basis,
those who have lost loved ones, and those who worry for loved ones.
May we come to a time when we cease to shame children around gender roles and expression,
where we allow for freedom and exploration of identity and expression,
and to a world that operates from love especially when things are difficult and confusing.
May all of us who live with the threat of violence find support, strength,
community, hope, and safety from violence.

Go to uucf.org/showing-up for information on the event, how to donate, and ways to log on to the event.

GO GREEN
Have old political signs? Donate them to help bees stay warm & safe. What a great way to recycle!
Unlike a solid wood board, corrugated plastic also prevents fungal infections.
By Tues., Nov. 17, a collection box will be placed in the FUUSM courtyard area near the basement door to the R E/office building. All corrugated plastic signs are acceptable, whatever candidates they support. The bees don't care! We'll take charge of picking them up on a regular basis over the next few weeks.
(If you have a Climate Voter sign, you may want to keep it for future elections -still a valid thing to promote!)
Thanks, Adeline and Mike

All Ages Service ~Thanksgiving - Let’s Tell a Truer Story
A sense of place and belonging is a vital part of our identity. Can we clearly look anew at our cultural traditions? Let us listen and learn, and choose a better understanding. Many Indigenous people view the myth of Thanksgiving as oppressive.

The UUA General Assembly raised over $100,000 for Indigenous leadership through the Tomaquag Museum in Rhode Island for partner organizations and efforts around the 400th anniversary of the landing of the Mayflower.

Congregational Teach-In: Addressing 400 Years of White Supremacist Colonialism
Sunday Nov. 22 (4-6:30 pm ET) Part of Harvest the Power
Hosted and organized by Rev. Dr. Clyde Grubbs, Rev. Karen Van Fossan, Ann Gilmore, & Aly Tharp

In 2016, Unitarian Universalists voted to pay special attention to learning our history and rethinking Thanksgiving in the year 2020, in observance of the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims landing in Plymouth.
Given that the usual travels and traditions for Thanksgiving holidays are ostensibly canceled by the pandemic, now is the time to gather and think together virtually, and to celebrate differently.
Please sign up, view the program schedule, and help spread the word about the fantastic community programs and documentary film screenings (Great Resources). VIEW THE SCHEDULE – HELP SPREAD THE WORD

Harvest the Power - Justice Convergence & Teach-In,
November 19-26. Harvest the Power, inspired by Jim Scott’s hymn “Gather the Spirit”, is a six week confluence of Unitarian Universalist Justice ministries (that began Oct. 21)  to deepen our relationships, draw on the sources of wholeness and strength in which we are rooted, and move together in powerful ways for justice.
Visit UUMFE (UU Ministry for Earth).

LEARN MORE:
The 8th Principle states: “We, the member congregations of the UUA, covenant to
affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”
As part of an effort to equalize decision-making, recognizing that urgent, top-down leadership is one way white supremacy appears in organizations, the group agreed to try out sociocracy, a process of governance in which everyone’s voice is heard.
