[Fuusm-l] Sustainability Forum: seeking volunteers

Hello dear FUUSM family!

I hope that by now, most of you have heard that a subcommittee of the Green Sanctuary Committee, along with the Ohio Sierra Club and the Ohio Environmental Council, is planning a Sustainable Marietta forum, to be held April 3-5.  I’m attaching a press release, a poster (which we hope you will print and share widely), and the outline of Saturday’s events.

If this topic interests you at all, I hope you will read the press release and outline; register online at tinyurl.sustainable-marietta-forum (by March 25, in order to qualify for a free lunch); and encourage all your friends to do the same. We think that, facing climate change and a future that might be very different from the past and present, our community needs to prepare, rather than react. The purpose of the forum is to begin a community discussion on that topic. We’ve been working hard (and we’re not finished yet!) on this event, and we’re excited to have Ohio’s expert on community sustainability, Myra Moss, as our keynote speaker. She’ll be involved in the entirety of the event, for which we’re thrilled and grateful. Also presenting will be representatives of other communities whose local governments have a sustainability director or commissioner, or otherwise have a focus on sustainability.

We hope you’ll register and attend, but the real reason I’m writing is because I hope you will also VOLUNTEER. We’re going to need a slew of helpers Friday night, Saturday all day and evening, and Sunday afternoon. The purpose of this email is to prime the pump. We’ll be using the tried-and-true sign-up-sheet-during-coffee-hour method of enlisting help, and we’ll also be seeking contributions of homemade food for the kick-off event, a Just Dinner, on Friday evening.
