[Fuusm-l] Fracking

Dear FUUSM friends,

I’m so grateful that Shari is channeling her anger over the proposed wastewater unloading dock proposal into action! Several members of the Green Sanctuary Committee have already written letters to the editor of the Marietta Times, as well as letters to the Army Corps of Engineers, and to our federal government officials (especially Sen. Sherrod Brown) about the lack of public notice and short window of time to comment. As of now, no public hearing is planned. And this proposed facility would not be an asset to our community!

Just a note, though. The proposal is for a docking facility in which brine would be delivered on barges and unloaded into trucks for disposal into local wells. In a May 27 article in the Marietta Times, a spokesperson from the gas and oil industry said that the waste would come only from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. But that restriction is not in the permit application. If you’d like to see the permit, click here:

I will certainly make a sign opposing the facility, take a selfie holding it, and send it to the Army Corps of engineers, the governor, Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman, and even my neighbor, Bill Johnson. I hope you will do the same.

West Virginia folks, this facility is on the Ohio River, so even though the facility is proposed for the Ohio side, it could impact you, too! Your opinion counts, and I encourage you to contact the Army Corps of Engineers: kayla.n.adkins at usace.army.mil <>

Thank you, Shari! <>

They will be brought in by trucks and shipped out by barges. That means that at least two times they will be transferred from one vessel to another, on that very spot.
