Dear Members and Friends of FUUSM --

You are invited to join the Nov. 5 session of the current Adult RE class.  In light of recent events, we are looking at the causes of radicalization and some possible ways to prevent its occurrence.  We will be watching the videotaped account of a former jihadist and discussing the text of an address given by Scott Atran to the UN Security Council in 2015.  He shares insights into causes and preventative steps. That text is attached.

Martha -- To follow up with our conversation at Christ UMC on Thursday, I suggest that the session after the Hajj focus on how Islam can get hijacked.  Here is a video that I suggest and attached is a handout.

The written piece is also a video but my thinking is that is better to provide this information in written form and show a video of a person who got caught in extremist thinking and how he left that way of life.
