FUUSM Family,

Unitarian Universalism is very different from traditional religions. Our approach to theology, our worship services, our shared ministry, our inclusiveness toward a variety of people and religious beliefs, our activism for social justice ….. in all these aspects we are different, sometimes markedly so.

No wonder that it’s not easy for newcomers, often with backgrounds in traditional religion, to figure out how to be a UU. The New UU series is meant to help newcomers, new members, and new friends negotiate through these differences and find their way of fitting in. If you are new to Unitarian Universalism, we highly recommend that you attend this course. If you are not a newcomer but do not feel comfortable in your understanding of Unitarian Universalism (e.g., can your explain it to a friend?), then this is the course for you. This series is a way for people to learn what Unitarian Universalism is and how we go about being a UU . Those who have taken this series report that it was very helpful.

The New UU series will start on January 7 and last through February 18, on Sunday mornings from 10am to 10:45am. We will be covering such topics as theology, UU history, worship, religious education, spiritual practice, social justice, governance and polity, and membership. Because Sunday services during this period will be moved to the Fellowship Hall, the sessions will be in the parlor of Education building.

Drop-ins are welcome, but attending the whole series will give the maximum benefit. Contact me if you have any questions.

Darryl Ting
