Dear FUUSM Family,
This weekend (Sat. Dec. 3) we mourn the deaths and celebrate the lives of two long-time members- Caroline W. Putnam and Alberto Prince. The service for Caroline is at FUUSM at 1:30pm. The service for Alberto Prince is at 11am at the UU Church in St. Petersburg, FL., which is the winter home of Alberto & Anna Prince.
Alberto Prince was married for 64 years to wife Anna, a beloved artist whose influence and spirit is felt here at FUUSM and in the wider Marietta community even in her absence. They both lived life to the fullest and have been a wonderful example of sharing life, even though physical challenges have made that difficult.
Alberto Prince would have struck up a conversation about the death of Fidel Castro, posing queries in his provocative way. I recall many such questions and exchanges as we washed coffee cups in the kitchen. It was his way of enjoying service and sharing work- in the kitchen, or at the ball park. Many here in Marietta recall his role as a psychology professor at Marietta College, a teacher and mentor for many. He was active in the UU Film Group, and Sunday morning discussion group. Al was clearly an agnostic/atheist, not so much undecided as unconvinced. I never found him aggressive in his opinions, rather he delighted in debate, and vigorous inquiry was his "spiritual" practice. We miss him very much here in Marietta, OH.
Our love for Anna is immense and we join her whole family in remembering and honoring Alberto Prince.
Bright Blessings, Rev. Kathryn E. Hawbaker
