3.. Transformative worship: Kat, Peg, and Randy have designed a "teaching" service and follow-up workshop session for August 13.
4.. Re-Usable Folder: Adeline reported on the pilot implementation of the informational folder. It seems to be well received so far. She does see need for further revision. In discussion, we identified the possibility of including the history of the chalice.
5.. Singing Bowl purchase from Tibetan Monks: The Committee approved reimbursement of $68.00 purchase of a singing bowl. Kat used it to open and close the meeting.
6.. Shari will ask Board about policy concerning special collection, regular, or split plate and related procedures for payment.
7.. Referral to Buildings & Grounds: Martha & Kat will convey concerns about devising a solution for storage of chairs for Social Hall.
8.. Congregational Assessment: The Committee reviewed results of the 2017 Congregational Assessment. Some take-aways:
Use of theme seems to be helpful to some. Members appreciate the focus on current social and human issues and opportunities for congregation members to share their experiences and expertise. All forms of music in the worship services are greatly appreciated.
As we design and implement the worship services, we need to stress the value of the Chalice Lighting.
An exploration of the meaning of "worship" might be fruitful. (Is it a theme as "ministry" was?)
Generally, deepening content is desired - on all topics, particularly belief traditions.
Since we are outgrowing the Social Hall for summer services, adding AC to Sanctuary becomes more urgent.
Suggested topic: morality of Artificial Intelligence
10.. Upcoming Services:
Martha will contact Andrew Clovis to schedule a time in fall 2017 for attention to National Parks.
Summer Dismissal of Young People: The group suggested a change in the dismissal time of young people during summer services so that they have enough time for their BRIDGES project. Suggestion: Welcome Song, Welcome, Chalice Lighting, departure of young people during Prelude.
Kat raised the possibility of a foot-washing ceremony. The Committee felt that it would be best in an intimate setting and suggested offering an alternative service for those who would choose to experience that enactment of compassion and humility.
11.. Theme for Year 2017-2018 will be "How do we create a world of our values?"
12.. Possible Topics and speakers for future services: Touchstone REACH Packet, Hungry Town, multiple intelligences, powerful children's stories, ages of women, This I Believe, family stories as carriers of family values, June Teenth celebration, reflections of people who grew up in UU congregation (Jay Phillips, Mike Bailey, Dean Banziger), Bill Bauer on suicide and kindness, reflections of former ministers, Jim Couts on Jubilee Gardens, LeeAnn Gallucci on recovering from loss, Living Mindfully - Prepare for the Unexpected (Robin Bozian, Anita Newhart, Sue Montera, Virginia Mayle), anti-bullying and Shari's Flower Story, Quill as a storyteller, Quakers on consensus.
