I have some ideas - I think better in the morning.  Some thoughts to get it all started.  I'm making no definitive statement here - just offering some ideas.  Annie
Starting with Robin's reflection service it would be good to include an action we could practice to confront disrespect in public (or with others we know) and relate that one to what if we see or know someone is being abused.  Do we approach the situation, access the danger for ourselves & others, or call the law?  Good to know what to do ahead of time so we can react in a way that doesn't make us feel bad about our response.
How can we be mindful and authentic in cherishing all life? Offering a thread of how to learn tools for being mindful and authentic in cherishing all life?
Oct. 25th we could offer an insight on what to do on voting day if someone is disrespectful or causing trouble.
Nov. 1 Use the example Martha just sent about responding to someone if they spout untruthful facts  Kat, Jane T-S, Martha McG  -  Day of the Dead & All Souls
Nov. 8   How to respond to someone who seems heartless in their approach to others?   Spiritual Sustenance  (possible election fall out issues to be addressed)

15   Words that women find offensive and how to respond to others who use those words?  Women’s Group  on 2020-2021 theme ??

22   Words to explain how we cherish all life  - animal life, insects, the soil, the earth environment...thinking through our own personal mission statement of one sentence as a tool for talking to others Thanksgiving

29   Words to explain/describe our spiritual beliefs?     Advent begins

December
6  Words to describe a random act of kindness that exemplifies cherishing all life?  St. Nicholas Day (host at Muskingum Park so other members of faith community can participate)
13 More random acts of kindness - One of the committees will do the reflection?
20 Random Acts of being authentic for January, February and March with a way to wrap it all up in early spring with something outdoors at the park
27  ?? Random acts of stepping out to share our FUUSM principles - Fire communion

Please note the change in starting time – 5:30 p.m.  (Adeline and Martha will be attending another Zoom meeting about holiday options.)

Please bring (or email) readings that can serve as resources for thematic services.

Agenda for October 7, 2020 Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee
5:30 p.m.  because of other workshop on Zoom right before W & M Meeting

Chalice Lighting:  Related to Simone Weill’s doctrine of attention: “Each conversation the narrator has is an exercise in attention: an occasion for her to shed her sense of self and to wait to receive the being she is looking at, just as she is, in all her truth.” [Aging Ungracefully in The New Yorker, 9/14/2020, Merve Emre]  Weill:  “The capacity to give one’s attention to a sufferer is a very rare and difficult thing.  The love of our neighbor in all its fullness simply means being able to say to him: ‘What are you going through?’  It is a recognition that the sufferer exists, not only as a unit in a collection, or a specimen from the social category labeled ‘unfortunate,’ but as a man, exactly like us, who was one day stamped with a special mark by affliction.”

1. Minutes of September  meeting to be approved.
2. Theme for 2020- 2021:  How can we be mindful and authentic in cherishing all life?
3. Sharing:  Committee members will bring “anchor readings” for the theme as resources for development of worship services.
482 – Jacob Trapp “half of language is to listen”
576 – A Litany of Restoration – Marjorie Bowens-Wheatley  “It will not matter.”
437 – Let Us Worship (and let us learn to love) – Kenneth L. Patton
484 – “To live content with small means;” – William Henry Channing

4. Moving Forward with Virtual Worship and Return to In-Church Services:  What are next steps??

• Update from Kat, others

What went well:
What to refine:
Thematic/coherent:
Spirituality/Faith Tradition:
Life Span:
6. Financial Matters:
7. Martha Webster is asking for guidance as she plans music for services.  The Committee brainstormed some ideas:  aim for special music once per month, feature family groups, talk with Jay Warmke and WOUB about coordinating multiple singers on Zoom, be a guest speaker on the healing power of music.  Further update???
8. The Committee decided to ask committees/groups to reflect on how they are, or intend to be, mindful and authentic in cherishing all life and then to be a part of, or to take responsibility for, a worship service on that 2020-2021 theme.  The Committee hopes that this approach will deepen insight into the purpose of the committee/group, will increase involvement of members/friends, and will inform the congregation of the activities of the committees/groups.  Adeline included information about this initiative in The Confluence for October.  Martha will report on contacts with the Board, Board of Trust Governors, Green Sanctuary, Caring Committee, Men’s Group, Women’s Group, Building & Grounds, Membership, BRIDGES, Finance, and W & M Committee.
