  Agenda for September 4,  2019  Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee 

    1.. Minutes of  August 7 to be approved. 
    2.. Correspondence:  Thank you to Becky Wright, Beth Casebolt with input from Suzyn.  bcasebolt at uua.org 
    3.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:  
      1.. Aesthetics Team:   Kat 
      2.. Special Music Team:  Suzyn 
      3.. Worship Associates Team:  Kat and Jim Rapp will plan a refresher for WAs in the fall.  Martha will update the checklists and scripts, send them to all WAs, and be sure they are accessible for use on Sundays in the Sanctuary/Social Hall. 
      4.. Piano Task Force: Suzyn and Randy will set a date for a fund-raiser recital, perhaps connected with Twelfth Night. 
      5.. Technology Task Force:  
                                                                 i.      Raising level of television -  Kat 

                                                               ii.      Development of AV presentations for key services throughout the year.  Cynthia Ting is willing to develop a display of her flower photographs.  Cindy Burton, Jimmy and Lyndsey Bennett have agreed to coordinate or produce AV presentations.

                                                              iii.      Repairing/replacing sound equipment in Sanctuary and Social Hall – Mike Bailey reported that, in the Sanctuary, the left and center speakers are now operational and other speakers have been re-aimed.  The repairman projected that a new sound board and loop hearing assistance system would cost $2000.  Mike recommended testing the adjusted arrangement before purchasing a replacement.

  A replacement system for the Social Hall has been purchased.  Mike Bailey and Ralph Olander will submit a reimbursement form.

    4.. Task Force for the Time for All Ages:  Ralph has created a list. 
    5.. Coordination with Buildings & Grounds: The group will reactivate in the fall. 
    6.. Communication:   Martha Webster is included in Worship list. 
    7.. Expenditures:  The Committee unanimously recommends that a donation of $500 be given early to the Multicultural Festival for 2020 so that our sponsorship will be part of all promotion for that event. – Kat will report on action at the September meeting. 
    8.. Budget Proposal – how the proposed budget for 2019-2020 aligns with what was approved.
  Issue of paid Choir Director

    9.. Recommendation regarding contract with Choir Director Martha Webster—
  By means of texting with Martha, the committee formulated the following stipend recommendation:  $200 x 12 months = $2400 per year

  The overall amount includes the Christmas Eve Service and covers preparation time during the summer hiatus.

    10.. Outside Greeters –Roger Kalter, the Safety Team, and Buildings & Grounds recommend that the cover NOT be used for the lift.  Training sessions for Worship Associates will be scheduled.  Maggie will report on conversations B & G about a ramp and the lift. 
    11.. August 3 Leadership Training – Kat will report in September.

  ·        clarification of various service/outreach activities of the local congregation and endeavors with UUA, UUSC, etc. and their relationship with FUUSM principles, mission

  Need for tracking and regular reporting? For example in Finance Committee records and Annual Meeting  report??   Do our church finances align with our mission?

  ·        Consolidation reflection for services related to theme for 2018-19 – Kat end of August

  ·        Possible speakers:  Robin Bozian, artists: Dani, Morgan/Owen

  ·        Workshop service:  prayer flags – Kat and Peg will take the lead on the service; Jane Tumas-Serna is willing to help.  

  ·        Mind maps may help the congregation identify how they are active in FUUSM efforts/activities and what additional options they would like.

  ·        Moral leadership:  Truman and Berlin Air Lift



    15.. Theme for Year 2018-2019:  “How can we inspire leaders for a complex world?”  [Try inductive approach and re-cap]
  The Committee agreed to use #592 The Free Mind by William Ellery Channing as the guiding reading for the thematic year.
