Minutes for February 6, 2019 Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee
In Attendance: Adeline Bailey, Kat Hawbaker, Martha McGovern, Suzyn Mills
Next Meeting: Wednesday, March 6, 2019 - 5:00 p.m., Parlor
1.. Minutes of the December/January approved. Thanks to Adeline for coordinating the email-meeting for January 2019.
2.. Correspondence: Martha will send a thank you to the Novaks for their gift to the music department, let John Maddox and Andrew Clovis know of gratitude expressed for cards received as part of the Community Card Project, notify Rob McManus that his honorarium has been donated to the Community Food Bank.
3.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:
1.. Aesthetics Team: Kat expressed gratitude for the efforts of Nancy Lee and Jane Tumas-Serna and the support they provide to preparation for the worship services..
2.. Special Music Team: Suzyn will contact congregation members (e.g., Kevin Morey, young cellist). Katy McDaniel is willing to play hymns when Randy is not available.

5.. Technology Task Force: Kat noted the efforts to create a slide show of congregation memories. At the Annual Meeting, Kat will remind members and friends that they can opt out of having their photographs included in that and other projects (e.g., website).

5.. Expenditures: Martha has submitted a request for payment of Peggy Gish for $75 for reflection on December 9, 2018, a request for $50 to cover Martha Webster's preparation of one Choir piece for November 4, 2018.
Martha's request for reimbursement for pendant and necklace gift to Nancy Novak was approved.
Next meeting: Request for $250 for Melissa Jeter - reflection on April 28
Kat reported that Ralph Olander has been reimbursed for purchase of the television.
6.. Budget Proposal - Please see separate document of revised Proposed Budget for 2019-2020.
7.. Feedback from Community Card Project - The church has received several expressions of gratitude for cards sent out in December. Martha will let John Maddox know.
8.. Assessment of Service:
Christmas Potluck Brunch -- All went well. 50 attended.

What to refine:
Thematic: Free Mind Chalice Lighting connected
Spirituality/Faith Traditions: Buddhist Tradition - Thich Nhat Hanh meditation
Life Span: story about Emerson included his key beliefs and his visit to FUUSM
9.. Folder: The experiment is closed. Putting the affirmation in the hymnals removed some of its need. The Committee proposes that a) the Inclusion Statement be posted in Social Hall just as the Principles and Affirmation are; b) one of the remaining folders be displayed on the Membership bulletin board.
10.. Campaign for purchase of teal hymnals (donate - acknowledgement in hymnal - combine with service that features hymns from the book) - For future discussion
11.. Services for March - May:
Kat will contact Jann Adams about being speaker on March 10 ??
12.. Theme for Year 2018-2019: "How can we inspire leaders for a complex world?" [Try inductive approach and re-cap]
The Committee agreed to use #592 The Free Mind by William Ellery Channing as the guiding reading for the thematic year.
