Greetings, W & M Committee members -- Looking forward to seeing you this Wednesday.  Be thinking of possible service topics for this summer!



Agenda for May 1,  2019  Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee 

  1.. Minutes of April meeting to be approved 
  2.. Correspondence:  Martha 
  3.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:  
    1.. Aesthetics Team:    
    2.. Special Music Team:   Suzyn 
    3.. Worship Associates Team:  
    4.. Piano Task Force: Suzyn will arrange for digital piano to be moved to Social Hall between Yard Sale and June 16. 
    5.. Technology Task Force:

  4.. Coordination with Buildings & Grounds: Maggie 
  5.. Expenditures:  
Donation to Multicultural Festival - Martha sent recommendation to Board that FUUSM donate $500 so that we are officially a sponsor and visible in promotional materials for the Festival.  

Melissa Jeter canceled so no request for stipend made. 

  6.. Budget Proposal - Budget for 2019-2020 approved by Finance and Board? 
  7.. Annual Report for 2018-2019 --  THANK YOU to Suzyn Mills for reporting at the Annual Meeting.   Feedback on actions taken at the meeting?

  9.. Outside Greeters - The W & M Committee recommends that Membership Committee add greeters outside in order to identify need for the lift and to facilitate its use.  Adeline will communicate the basis for the recommendation to the Membership Committee.  
  10.. New Theme for 2019-2020:  How do we address the paradox of "We"? 
  11.. Services for  April - August:  
·        Planning for farewell for Nancy and Ernie - Kat  -- Set for May 19, potluck

·        clarification of various service/outreach activities of the local congregation and endeavors with UUA, UUSC, etc. and their relationship with FUUSM principles, mission

Need for tracking and regular reporting? For example in Finance Committee records and Annual Meeting  report??   Do our church finances align with our mission?

·        Katy McDaniel - Dark Tourism (responsibility of deity or humans?)  Check for other dates in July or August

·        Consolidation reflection for services related to theme for 2018-19 - Kat end of August

·        Paradox of "We" - Becky Wright is willing to teach dance that illustrates the concept.  (306 Fifth Street)

 

  12.. Theme for Year 2018-2019:  "How can we inspire leaders for a complex world?"  [Try inductive approach and re-cap]
The Committee agreed to use #592 The Free Mind by William Ellery Channing as the guiding reading for the thematic year.

Rancho Mirage Writers Festival (published on February 17, 2017) - Questions from Bret 

            Stephens:  

Are we a country that seeks and attracts human capital and believes in being fundamentally open 

to the world?  Are we a self-critical country or a country of blamers?  Do we define our interests 

according to our values or vice versa?  Do we have a healthy innovation culture?  Do we have a 

healthy civic culture?  Are we still a nation of optimists?  What are our attitudes toward

foreigners, failure, global leadership, change, each other?
