Minutes of Meeting on February 7, 2018 of the Worship & Music Committee

Next Meeting: Wednesday, March 7, 2018, Parlor, 5:00 p.m.

* See changes since meeting.

In Attendance: Adeline Bailey, Kat Hawbaker, Martha McGovern, Maggie Meyer, Shari Miller, Suzyn Mills

1.. Minutes of the January meeting were approved
2.. Correspondence: Martha reported that thank you notes were sent to Mark Sibicky and those who helped with taking down and storing holiday decorations.
3.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:
    1.. Aesthetics Team:
2.. Special Music Team: Suzyn Mills reported that a quartet will provide special music on February 18.
Last Sunday in September: Andrew McKnight -- degree of involvement TBD

3.. Worship Associates Team: WA Checklist and Script are available in the Social Hall for the January and February services. [Check inside the podium.]
4.. Piano Task Force: The piano in Social Hall was tuned and payment has been made. Chris Purdy assessed the state of the keyboard, especially the base, and determined that the deterioration is extensive. In terms of cost, he advises that it would be more effective to replace the piano than to repair it. The casters, however, are worth saving for re-use or sale. Suzyn volunteered to lead problem-solving - alerting the congregation of the possible need for a replacement piano, pricing available pianos and electronic keyboards, consulting with Randy.
    5.. Technology Task Force:
6.. Task Force for the Time for All Ages:
7.. Coordination with Buildings & Grounds: Maggie shared her report to Buildings and Grounds and her location of storage units and bins at Lowe's, which seem appropriate for the tower room. Because repair work continues in the Sanctuary area, action will be delayed.
3.. Board policy concerning special collections: Shari will consult with the Board.
4.. Social Justice and Communication: Kat will take practical steps so congregation members are clear about immediate responses and access to referral information.
5.. Budget: Dr. Mark Sibicky requested that his stipend be donated to a cause of our choice. The Committee recommended that the money be transferred to the Values Trust, which is an endowment to fund projects related to social justice. Martha will complete the paperwork for that transfer and notify Dr. Sibicky of the action.
Proposed Budget for 2018-19: Martha will email a draft of the proposed budget so that action can be taken at the March meeting and submitted to the Treasurer on time.

7.. Annual Report: The Committee began reflection on the report, especially on devising a method of assessing whether we have successfully addressed our goals. In preparation for further discussion in March, Martha will email a draft of the 2017-2018 Annual Report.
Theme for Year 2017-2018 will be "How do we create a world of our values?"
