Hi, Kat and Worship & Music Committee --
We have an appeal here from Todd and Meg Hoke to do a service "5 Happy Things" on June 3, 2018. The topic sounds relevant to congregation concerns. I don't have any information about payment or other needed amenities.
In terms of our schedule for June, we need to consider the traditions of Flower Communion and the Father's Day Picnic. I haven't heard any murmurs about a Garden Tour or Plant Sale this year.
Possible line-up:
June 3 -- 5 Happy Things
June 10 -- Flower Communion
June 17 -- Father's Day Picnic
Let Kat and me know your thoughts, please.

Subject: Guest Speaker & Musician for June 3rd?
Hi Folks.
Todd Hoke, here. My wife (Meg) and I have a service we worked up a while back called "5 Happy Things" and I'm emailing to see whether y'all might be interested in having us in to share it with your congregation on 6/3/2018.
We've presented "5 Happy Things" at several UU Congregations near to home here in Western North Carolina: The UU Fellowship of Hendersonville (our home Fellowship), The UU Church of Catawba Valley, The UU Congregation of the Swannanoa Valley, The UUs of Transylvania County, and The UU Congregation of Asheville. We’ve also shared "5 Happy Things" a bit further afield at The Comal County UU Society (Texas), The UU Church of the Hill Country (Texas), Thoreau Woods UU Church (Texas), and The UU Congregation of Lakeland (Florida).
Whenever we've presented "5 Happy Things" the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive; folks have told us over and over that it's been the best service they've attended in a long time (it's a little embarrassing to share that, but it's true). In addition to UU services we've also shared "5 Happy Things" at two hospice conferences and have done a few in-services for staff--again to glowing response from those in attendance. I'm certain folks at the Fellowships we've presented at would give us a solid endorsement.
Our presentation of "5 Happy Things" is powerful, fun, and practical. Meg provides the message and I take care of the music. Here's a little blurb that describes what it's about:
"5 Happy Things - Todd and Meg Hoke share through music and reflection how the practice of "5 Happy Things" has impacted their life. Todd Hoke is a singer-songwriter with three CDs and is also a nurse at Four Seasons' Hospice Inpatient Unit. Meg Hoke has a Masters of Social Work and is Director of the Palliative Care program with Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. When people hear about our work, they often say 'How do you do that? It's so depressing!' 5 Happy Things is part of what keeps us balanced. As Meg and Todd have shared it with friends and family, they have discovered that it is powerful for others, too. This service will leave you with a smile on your face and another tool for living a meaningful life."
Feel free to contact me if you would like more information or would like to discuss scheduling this date.
Thanks very much.
