Minutes for September 6, 2017 Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee

In Attendance: Adeline Bailey, Peg Clifford, Kat Hawbaker, Martha McGovern, Shari Miller, Suzyn

            Mills

Next Meeting: October 4, 5:00 p.m., Parlor

1.. Minutes of the August meeting were approved.
2.. Correspondence: Thank you sent to Chase Brady.
3.. Issue of Choir Director as paid position: After discussion, the committee realized that the issue of making the Choir Director a paid position does not need to be acted upon at the September 24 congregational meeting. Our recommendation to make the position a paid one and the suggested range of pay has been conveyed to the Board and Finance Committee. We base our recommendation on the belief that music is an important part of worship, that participation in Choir is an aspect of FUUSM's ministry, and that preparation for and facilitation of Choir practices and performances require expert knowledge and skill. We defer to the Personnel Committee to determine pay.
4.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:
1.. Aesthetics Team: Jane Tumas-Serna, Karen Binkley, and Kat are preparing the Sanctuary for the Water Ceremony.

6.. Re-Usable Folder: Adeline and Kat will make amendments (photographs, revised Inclusion statement, BRIDGES information) and reintroduce the folder in October.
7.. Board policy concerning special collections: The Board will present policy options to the congregation at the September 24 meeting.

On September 13, at Women's Group, Martha or Shari will request their involvement with the actual decoration of the Sanctuary. Martha will contact Men's Group about decorating the outside of the building.

  12.. Other Issues Arising
1.. Peg expressed the need to have contact names and numbers for often requested community services. The Committee agreed that it would be good to provide members of the congregation with a card for quick reference.
2.. Committee members expressed confusion about the presence of two FUUSM Facebook pages. .
3.. Peg Clifford recommended that an "event" notice should be posted on Facebook for the Adult RE course, "Understanding and Appreciating Islam."
