Minutes for June 7, 2017  Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee 

 In Attendance:  Adeline Bailey, Peg Clifford, Kat Hawbaker, Randall Kidder, John Maddox, Martha McGovern, Shari Miller

NEXT MEETING:  JULY 5, 2017

  1.. Minutes of the May meeting were approved.     
  2.. Correspondence:  Martha reported that thank you notes have been sent out (Michael Mullen, Aesthetics Team) 
  3.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:  
    1.. Aesthetics Team:  Nancy Lee, Gillian Abbott, and Jane Tumas-Serna have installed a Tree of Life for the spring months. 
    2.. Special Music Team: Suzyn  Hungrytown group. 
    3.. Worship Associates Team:  New members -- Andrew Clovis, Amy Miller, Gene Barry, and Dawn Hewitt + Peg Clifford   Martha reported that the Worship Associates list has been updated and that the Summer WA Checklist and revised Welcome has been sent out.  Duties in Sanctuary:  Add help with piano cover at end of service. 
    4.. Piano Task Force:  
    5.. Technology Task Force:  Kat reported that the Committee's recommendations have been conveyed to the Board and that they are under consideration.  [The Committee noted that the FUUSM technology support folks.serve the whole congregation in many ways and are not attached to a specific group or committee. W & M suggests that they be given explicit thanks and that a report of their activities be submitted annually and included in the Annual Meeting.]     
    6.. Task Force for the Time for All Ages:  
  4.. Transformative worship:  Kat, Peg, and Randy will meet on Friday, June 30, at 1:00 p.m. to formulate how/when to introduce the concept to the congregation and to involve them in a brainstorming session. 
  5.. Re-Usable Folder:  Kat and Adeline shared the revised folder.  Adeline will have the master ready for printing and to Kat/Chris at least one week before the first summer service.  Adeline will also inform the Greeters/Host of related procedures.  
  6.. Coordination with Greeters/Hosts:  Adeline has informed Greeters/Hosts to make people aware of the large print materials and hearing enhancement devices before they enter the Sanctuary/Social Hall.  
  7.. Congregational Assessment:  Kat sent the full results to the Committee.  We will discuss the results at the July meeting. 
  8.. Upcoming Services:  Kat will contact potential speakers (Katy McDaniel, Andrew Clovis) and coordinate services for August 13, 20, 27.
Peg and Martha will plan the September 3 service around "This Land Is Your Land."  Martha will ask guitarist Chase Brady to participate in the service.

  9.. Setting up for Summer Services:  
June 11:  Kat will ask congregation to bring hymnals down to Social Hall at end of service.  

               Martha will bring Randy's materials downstairs.

               Membership Committee will locate the nametag storage unit and install it in the Social 

                        Hall. 

June 25: Adeline will check with Mike Bailey about making sound equipment available.

June 30: Kat will coordinate platform set-up for July 2 service.

  10.. Theme for Year 2017-2018 will be "How do we create a world of our values?" 
  11.. Possible Topics and speakers for future services:  Tibetan Monks, Touchstone REACH Packet, Hungry Town, multiple intelligences, powerful children's stories, ages of women, This I Believe, family stories as carriers of family values, June Teenth celebration, reflections of people who grew up in UU congregation (Jay Phillips, Mike Bailey, Dean Banziger), Bill Bauer on suicide and kindness,  reflections of former ministers, Jim Couts on Jubilee Gardens, LeeAnn Gallucci on recovering from loss, Living Mindfully - Prepare for the Unexpected (Robin Bozian, Anita Newhart, Sue Montera, Virginia Mayle), anti-bullying and Shari's Flower Story, Quill as a storyteller, Quakers on consensus. 
Mark Sibicky on mindset/habits of mind needed for democracy - Martha -- contact again in Summer or September 2017
