Agenda for August 9, 2017  Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee 

Note Time & Place of Meeting:  August 9  Wed.  at Shari Miller's  3:00 p.m.

  1.. Minutes of the July meeting to approve     
  2.. Correspondence:  Martha 
  3.. Issue of payment for Choir Director 
  4.. Stipend for Judith Bedard 
  5.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:  
    1.. Aesthetics Team:   
    2.. Special Music Team: Suzyn  Hungrytown group. 
    3.. Worship Associates Team:  New member -Chris Jacobs 
Suzyn will mentor Dawn Hewitt on July 23; Martha will mentor Chris Jacobs on August 13.

Clarification of Summer Duties:  WA's should place hymnal on each chair, if possible, and direct attendees to help with stacking chairs after service.  

Greeters will hand out order-of-service to be sure newcomers get folder and appropriate folks get large font copy.

Duties in Sanctuary:  Add help with piano cover at end of service.

Martha will contact Andrew Clovis to schedule a time in fall 2017 for attention to National Parks.

Summer Dismissal of Young People:  The group suggested a change in the dismissal time of young people during summer services so that they have enough time for their BRIDGES project.  Suggestion:  Welcome Song, Welcome, Chalice Lighting, departure of young people during Prelude.

Kat raised the possibility of a foot-washing ceremony.  The Committee felt that it would be best in an intimate setting and suggested offering an alternative service for those who would choose to experience that enactment of compassion and humility.

  11.. Theme for Year 2017-2018 will be "How do we create a world of our values?" 
  12.. Possible Topics and speakers for future services:  Touchstone REACH Packet, Hungry Town, multiple intelligences, powerful children's stories, ages of women, This I Believe, family stories as carriers of family values, June Teenth celebration, reflections of people who grew up in UU congregation (Jay Phillips, Mike Bailey, Dean Banziger), Bill Bauer on suicide and kindness,  reflections of former ministers, Jim Couts on Jubilee Gardens, LeeAnn Gallucci on recovering from loss, Living Mindfully - Prepare for the Unexpected (Robin Bozian, Anita Newhart, Sue Montera, Virginia Mayle), anti-bullying and Shari's Flower Story, Quill as a storyteller, Quakers on consensus, morality of artificial intelligence. 
Mark Sibicky on mindset/habits of mind needed for democracy - Martha -- contact again in Summer or September 2017
