Minutes for May 4 Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee
Attendance: Adeline Bailey, Kat Hawbaker, Suzyn Mills, Martha McGovern
Next Meeting: Wednesday, June 1, 2016 Parlor, 5:00 p.m.
1.. Minutes of the meeting on April 13 were approved with the correction of Suzyn Mills as WA for May 15.
2.. Correspondence: Shari will send thank you notes to Ginger Maples of Amedisys hospice and Sue EllenWaybright of MOV Circles Campaign for their informative and moving presentations. She will also send a thank you to BRIDGES for the service on May 8.
3.. The Committee concurred that follow-up to the hospice presentation is in order. Kat will communicate with the Visiting Team and Adult RE and will consider how to approach the congregation about on-going update of the church files.
4.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:
1.. Sanctuary Decoration Team is active again -- Kat will coordinate with Nancy Novak and the Team about set-up for summer services.
2.. Special Music Team: Suzyn will contact Melissa Cox of Mythica to formalize arrangements for a coffeehouse on Sunday, July 3. The Committee proposed that a 50/50 split of proceeds be offered. Suzyn or Martha will contact Emerson Shimp about the C-Notes for an August service.
The Committee also approved purchase of music stands. Suzyn will investigate various sources.
3.. Piano Task Force: Suzyn reported that Randy & Jessica are planning a concert for early October 2016. Each will receive 25% of the proceeds, and 50% of the proceeds will go to the Piano Fund.

5.. Task Force for the Time for All Ages: Shari Miller, Kerry Blair, Dawn Weidner, Cindy Burton, Diane McMichael, Adeline Bailey, and Ron Tepley. (Rachel Hyde, Gwen Banziger -- possible additions)
6.. Clutter Corps: Wendy Morey Kat will talk with the Board to see where the Clutter Corps fits in the organizational chart so that communication and decision-making are systematic.
4.. Report on National Universalist Convocation -- Kat shared the schedule of events for the May 20-22 gathering.
5.. Budget for 2016-17 - The requested amount was approved at the Annual Meeting.
6.. Pianist: Because music is such an essential and integral part of the worship service, the Committee would like to recommend that as funds become available, they go toward replacing days off with pay for playing for worship services. Martha will send a copy of the Committee's position to John Kidd of the Finance Committee and to the Board.
7.. Annual Report for 2015-16: The Committee thanked Adeline for being our representative at the Annual Meeting.
8.. Summer Services and Theme for Year 2016-17: The group concurred that the summer services can start to weave in the year's theme of "What does democracy look like?" Kick-off will be July 3.
9.. June 19 activities: We will have a co-led service by Rev. Lynda Smith and Rev. Kat for the Father's Day Picnic at the Multicultural Fair. Chris Keller has reserved the shelter and paid the rent for the shelter. She will see to the sign at the church and the "sentry" at the picnic shelter.
10.. June 26 service: Mike Bailey envisions that live broadcast of General Assembly is feasible this year. He is willing to train someone to do so. Martha will ask Mike Bailey and Ralph Olander to identify and arrange for a person to do that event.
11.. Selection of Specific Lamp for Piano: Joe Baker is willing to take leadership of this endeavor, and he will work with Randy in making the selection.
12.. Expenses: Kat arranged for payment of Jessica Baldwin for the May 1, 2016 service.
13.. Possible Topics and speakers for future services: multiple intelligences, forgiveness, powerful children's stories, ages of women, This I Believe, family stories as carriers of family values, FUUSM stories (Archive Moments), June Teenth celebration, reflections of people who grew up in UU congregation (Jay Phillips, Mike Bailey, Dean Banziger), Bill Bauer on suicide and kindness, reflections of former ministers, Jim Couts on Jubilee Gardens, LeeAnn Gallucci on recovering from loss, Jeff Danner (jdanner at wvup.edu) on theological topic of choice, Bill McNeely Music of the Spheres for Summer 2016, involvement in democracy (Willa O'Neill, Roger Kalter, Jane Tumas-Serna, Jim Rapp, Moon Mullens, Nana Redd, Nancy Novak), Katy McGlynn, Katy McDaniel, Living Mindfully - Prepare for the Unexpected.
