Hi Chris,
In your situation, since you close up the piano when not in use, I highly recommend either a floor standing lamp or one that sits on the side of the music rack. There are many available online that have a long arm or goose neck that will reach over to light the music. Then these could be set on the ground next to the piano when it is not needed. I usually don’t recommend the clamp on lights unless they are never removed. Taking it on and off damages the finish and the way that you are currently leaving the lamp on but closing the lid on it is really scratching up the finish!
I don’t have access to any special pricing on lamps so it would be easier and faster for you to find something online and have it shipped directly to you. Here are two common styles that sit on the piano. The one on the left can usually sit behind the music rack on the lid of the piano and reach over. The design on the right is easier to deal with, it sits on the side of the music rack and reaches over the music.
Hope this helps! And no, I am not staying warm. It is about as cold here in TN as it is there! I didn’t move far enough south…
Chris

Hi Chris. I have a question for you. You recommended that we use a different light on the Steinway Piano to prevent damage. Can we ask you to identify a lamp that you think would be appropriate and let us know the cost? We would like to take action on this ASAP. Can we aquire this and install on our own. If not, would you be willing to help us. Please advise. Thank you. Chris ps. Hope all is well with you...keep warm.
