Minutes for August 3, 2016 Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee
(plus additional notes from meeting with Kat on August 8)
Next meeting - Wednesday, September 7, 5:00 p.m. in Parlor
In Attendance: Adeline Bailey, Shari Miller, Martha McGovern
1.. Approved Minutes of the meeting on July 13
2.. Correspondence: Shari reported that she has sent thank you notes to recent speakers and will send ones to speakers for July. [Martha will provide an address for Nancy Dew.]
3.. Follow-up on the hospice presentation: Kat has spoken with the Visiting Team and will contact Patricia Sheldon about a Saturday workshop and Sunday morning service in the fall.
4.. Set-up for Summer Services: Adjustments to WA Duties made and distributed
A copy of the WA Duties for the summer services is inside the podium in FH.
5.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:
1.. Sanctuary Decoration Team: Kat will contact Nancy Novak about set up of the Sanctuary in September and for specific services in the fall.
2.. Special Music Team: The "One Voice" group will participate in a gospel sing in Parkersburg in August; a substitute voice is needed to replace Suzyn Mills. Kat will contact Lydia Hyde for a future service.
3.. Piano Task Force: Suzyn reported that Randy & Jessica are planning a concert for early October 2016. Each will receive 25% of the proceeds, and 50% of the proceeds will go to the Piano Fund.
4.. Technology Task Force: Ralph Olander and Mike Bailey will investigate device for smooth transmission of images from the computer to the TV as well as an updated projector. Kat will work with them to meet a specific goal date and use.
5.. Task Force for the Time for All Ages: Shari Miller, Kerry Blair, Dawn Weidner, Cindy Burton, Diane McMichael, Adeline Bailey, and Ron Tepley. (Rachel Hyde, Gwen Banziger -- possible additions)
6.. Clutter Corps: (Contact - Wendy Morey) Kat will talk with the Board to see where the Clutter Corps fits in the organizational chart so that communication and decision-making are systematic.

7.. Pianist: Because music is such an essential and integral part of the worship service, the Committee would like to recommend that arrangements with the pianist reflect the valuable contribution he makes to all services. Martha sent Committee's position to John Kidd of the Finance Committee and George Banziger of the Board.
8.. Selection of Specific Lamp for Piano: Joe Baker reported after the meeting that he will be meeting with the Piano Task Force to discuss the purchase of the lamp.
9.. Expenses: Requisition made for Rev. Lynda Smith - June 19 service
10.. Summer Services and Theme for Year 2016-17: The group concurred that the summer services can start to weave in the year's theme of "What does democracy look like?" Kick-off will be July 3.
Possible Topics and speakers for future services: multiple intelligences, forgiveness, powerful children's stories, ages of women, This I Believe, family stories as carriers of family values, June Teenth celebration, reflections of people who grew up in UU congregation (Jay Phillips, Mike Bailey, Dean Banziger), Bill Bauer on suicide and kindness, reflections of former ministers, Jim Couts on Jubilee Gardens, LeeAnn Gallucci on recovering from loss, Jeff Danner (mjwd58 at yahoo.com) theological topic of choice, involvement in democracy (Willa O'Neill, Roger Kalter, Moon Mullens, Katy McGlynn), Living Mindfully - Prepare for the Unexpected (Robin Bozian, Anita Newhart, Sue Montera, Virginia Mayle), Harvest of Hope, anti-bullying and Shari's Flower Story, Quill as a storyteller, Quakers on consensus.
