Subject: [Worship] W & M Committee -- Minutes of April 13 Meeting

Minutes for April 13, 2016 Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee

Next Meeting: May 4, 2016, at 5:00 p.m. in Parlor

In attendance: Adeline Bailey, Rev. Kat Hawbaker, Shari Miller, Suzyn Mills, Martha McGovern, Chair

1.. Minutes of the meeting on March 2 approved with correction. John Maddox was not in attendance.
2.. Correspondence: Shari reported that all thank you notes have been sent.
3.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:
1.. Sanctuary Decoration Team is active again. Kat will coordinate with members, especially Nancy Novak.

3.. Piano Task Force: Suzyn is also exploring a Randy & Jessica concert for fall 2016.
    4.. Technology Task Force:
5.. Task Force for the Time for All Ages: Shari Miller, Kerry Blair, Dawn Weidner, Cindy Burton, Diane McMichael, Adeline Bailey, and Ron Tepley. (Rachel Hyde, Gwen Banziger -- possible additions)
    6.. Clutter Corps: Wendy Morey
4.. Report on National Universalist Convocation -- Shari and Kat report that the schedule is fairly well set. Local support in terms of attendance will be welcome.
5.. Budget Report and Proposal for 2016-17: Martha sent the revised proposal to the Board. It was approved and will be voted on as part of the budget at the annual meeting.
6.. Pianist: The committee processed the tentatively proposed salary for the pianist and asked Kat to convey our sentiments to the Personnel Committee. The Worship & Music Committee emphasized the importance of music to the worship experience and the great contribution that the pianist makes to that experience. Although we understand the pressures of budget constraints, we feel that a raise is more affirming of those contributions than additional days off. Furthermore, we note that the committee did not spend all of what was allocated for the 2015-16 year and would encourage transfer of those savings to the pianist's salary.
7.. Annual Report for 2015-16: Martha submitted the report to the Board. Adeline will express gratitude for the congregation's contributions and make a short presentation of highlights at the Annual Meeting.
8.. Summer Services: The group concurred that the services can start to weave in the year's theme of "What does democracy look like?"
9.. Theme for Year 2016-17 - The group decided to address the question of "What does democracy look like?" and to anchor services on multiple statements that reflect the various facets of democracy.
10.. June 19 activities: We will have a co-led service by Rev. Lynda Smith and Rev. Kat for the Father's Day Picnic at the Multicultural Fair. Chris Keller will reserve the shelter and make arrangements for paying rent for the shelter. She will also see to the sign at the church and the "sentry" at the picnic shelter.
11.. June 26 service: Mike Bailey envisions that live broadcast of General Assembly is feasible this year. He is willing to train someone to do so. *Committee members will check with Bill McNeely, Kevin Morey, Eric Shea, and others to see who might do technology for June 26.
12.. Selection of Specific Lamp for Piano: Joe Baker is willing to take leadership of this endeavor, and he will work with Randy in making the selection.
13.. Expenses: Sue Ellen Waybright of MOV Circles Campaign will be guest speaker on April 24. She has requested a donation of her $75 stipend to MOV Circles Campaign, P.O. Box 1643, Parkersburg, WV 26102-1643. Martha will submit that request on April 25.
