Update for Men’s Bruce underwent colostomy reversal surgery at MMH w Dr.
Agaba Monday 6/24/23. It was a long day - 3 hours in pre-op; 3 hour surgery
& about 3 hours in recovery; then another hour or so to get settled in
private. Coming out of surgery, he was very groggy, in pain and had high
BP. It took awhile bring down & stabilize before transferring to private
room.Yesterday he was miserable with pain and nausea. Thankfully today he
feels he no longer needs IV morphine, but he is still dealing with some
intermittent nausea & hiccups. Today he spent time in his chair; he took 2
walks w PT; BP good; catheter removed. On a down note, this afternoon’s lab
shows high white blood cell count.Medical team addressing / managing
that.He is on clear liquid diet until there is some activity in the
bowel.Once it starts to function, full liquid diet and when that’s
tolerated soft food diet.To do the surgery they reopened the original
incision from the pubis area to the sternum area. Dr. Agaba advised prior
to surgery to plan for 5-6 +/- days in hospital. No driving, no lifting, no
bending for 4 weeks post op. Hoping that tomorrow brings more comfort &
healing.
