A few weeks ago, at the request of Save Ohio Parks, FUUSM's GSC voted to sign on to this letter asking Gov. DeWine to put a moratorium on fracking near or beneath public lands. Here is an update of their project and a REQUEST TO SEND A PERSONAL LETTER TO DEWINE. They've made it easy. In the message below, look for the third hot link, click on it, and in the form on the right, you can customize your own letter to Gov. DeWine expressing why fracking on or near public lands is disgraceful, disrespectful, unpleasant, and otherwise bad. Please, take 5 minutes and do that right now, before you forget!

Thanks!

Greetings, and thank you so much to you and your organization for signing on to the Save Ohio Parks letter asking Gov. Mike DeWine to declare a moratorium on any new or pendings nominations, bids, and leases to frack public lands.

A copy of the letter with the list of signatories is posted here
https://saveohioparks.org/2025/02/07/30-organizations-demand-moratorium-on-fracking-ohio-state-parks-and-public-lands/

I am writing to give you an update on the campaign.

Last Monday, February 3, a group of us delivered the letter in person to Gov. DeWine's office at the Riffe Tower in Columbus. The Ohio Statehouse News Bureau covered the story here:
https://www.statenews.org/government-politics/2025-02-07/activists-again-ask-that-dewine-snuff-out-fracking-in-ohio-state-parks

We had an agreement with them for an exclusive story. Unfortunately, so much other news happened last week that they did not actually post the story until Friday afternoon. But it did air on public radio stations throughout the state.

Today, we launched the next phase of the campaign, for individuals to contact DeWine to ask him to declare a moratorium. We sent the action alert out this morning at 7 a.m. So far 380 letters have been sent to DeWine, a great start to this campaign.

We would welcome your organization to help promote this phase of the campaign.

Here is a link to the action alert:

Here is a link to a folder with supporting photos and videos, though you are also welcome to use your own

We plan to run this phase of the campaign at least until the next meeting of the Oil and Gas Land Management Commission. We only get one week's notice of these meetings, so that could happen as early as next week, but likely sometime in February. We will keep you posted.

On the day of that meeting, we will organize a press conference an hour in advance to again ask for a moratorium. We will keep you posted as plans develop.

Thanks so much again for signing on to our letter and supporting this campaign. We could not do this without broad coalition support!

Just let us know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions.

Best wishes,

Cathy Cowan Becker

Save Ohio Parks
