Hello everyone, The Oil & Gas Land Management Commission only has to give 1
week's notice of their meetings, so of course that's all they gave & we
scurried to make plans to protest at the meeting - this MONDAY, MAY 20, at
1pm in Columbus - see forwarded email for details. Please come & arrive
early if possible as we want a presence outside the building where we can
talk with the media who so far have faithfully attended and covered these
meetings! Fracking is getting a lot of negative media coverage right now
with Justin Nobel's book tour, the long delayed closings of leaking
injections wells, and the topic of George's letter to DeWine, the
disclosure of State Senator Chavez' DeepRock injection wells' leaking,
DeWine appointing him to the Oil and Gas Commission, the state having paid
for the cleanup, etc. So let's keep the pressure on! We believe our efforts
have slowed down the leasing process so far and we want to continue having
that effect until we can elect new legislators in November who will change
the laws. Thanks!
Anne Sparks

   — This entire 85-acre site in Harrison County appeals to hikers, hunters
   and birders.

While the commission meeting officially begins at 1 p.m., we ask you to
arrive at 12:30 p.m. to join us outside the main entrance for fellowship,
chanting, and singing. Wear a costume if you like. Bring a sign with your
feelings about fracking and its effects on our pristine drinking water.

*Recent good news* is that the Ohio Department of Natural Resources finally
closed three fracking waste injection wells

in rural Athens County. Fracking wastewater was reported leaking for years
and migrating into abandoned gas wells up to 1.5 miles away for months,
threatening drinking water for local residents.

Finally, media stories and pressure from environmental groups including
Save Ohio Parks and Buckeye Environmental Network forced ODNR to shut the
wells down. But this is just the beginning.
Clean water themed protest

To illustrate the importance of clean drinking water to the people of Ohio
and emphasize the state’s lax regulations on fracking waste management, we
ask you to bring a labeled, capped glass jar of water from your tap at
home, your well, river, creek or nearby stream. We’ll ask the commissioners
to test our water samples for their drinkability both before and after
fracking.

Together we fight for the right of all Ohioans to enjoy our parks and
public lands in their natural, unspoiled states. We do this not just for
us, but also for those we love best who will come after us — our children
and grandchildren.

in hopes you can join us in fighting to protect our pristine state parks,
wildlife areas, and public lands from fracking.
