[Green] Call or email the mayor: ask to protect this tree

Thanks, Rebecca and Teresa! Roger said he has been in contact with Grady Smith of the Tree Commission, and urban forester Ann Bonner visited the tree. He said Ann told Steve Wetz that the the tree is healthy. The Tree Commission members support the tree. Two of the tree’s neighbors want it removed. I’m going to email both Mayor Schlicher and Steve Wetz right now. Stevewetz at mariettaoh.net. Steve has been very supportive of the pollinator plot and the solar charging bench, so I have good reason to be exceedingly polite.

It’s big, it’s old, it’s dropping limbs and damaging the sidewalk, but it’s healthy, and provides shade and habitat. Two of its neighbors want it cut; other neighbors are clueless about it. Roger is working with the Tree Commission. Cutting this tree will cost an estimated $14K, Roger said (?!?), and the city is cash-strapped. Is this really a good use of our tax dollars.
