Urban Food Forest underway in Marietta, Ohio

The food forest garden open house (at Jay's new office in a 120-year-old "Rural Victorian" house in Marietta Ohio) was a huge success. It was the mirror of what we do here at the farm...a proper cup of tea, chocolate dipped cookies and lots of smiles.

Elyse Perruchon, our very first intern and co-leader of our farm advisory board consulted with me to create a charming garden design. You can see the layout at www.bluerockstation.com. Check out her new business - Leaf and Lily (Buffalo NY).

Of course right now it looks like a bunch of mulch with some 5' twigs sticking out of the ground surrounded by tiny honey berry, elderberry and berry starts. The figs look like they might amount to something.

The garden in Marietta is the beginning of a new adventure for Blue Rock Station programs. Sign up to volunteer and you'll learn about plants and their propagation.

Or maybe you're more interested in learning about sustainable building construction - if you volunteer you'll learn how to repair earthen plaster walls, or perhaps how to construct a can wall. There are plenty of rammed earth tires needed for the Tiny House cistern.

Goat Stock Reunion

July 8th noon to whenever or stay overnight

Blue Rock Station/Warmke Farm

Music, a treasure hunt, annual tie dye, games, birthday hat art, a photo booth and Jay turns 65. Meatless potluck is the menu so bring something delicious for hot weather. Cold drinks and birthday cake will be provided. BUT the real fun will be learning to dance the Zouk with former intern Nate Revello as the leader.

It's all happening soon so make plans and let Annie know when you will arrive and depart. Everyone is welcome to say overnight - arrive early or stay late. There will be some housing but also plenty of room for camping.

The Farm Advisory Board (FAB) will be meeting from 9 am to 11 am the morning of the event. If you're interested in joining the meeting everyone is welcome.

Volunteers are needed to help with decorations, food prep, greeting guests, and clean up.

Volunteering with Blue Rock Station
There is plenty to do - weeding, watering, plant propagation, painting, and more. If you have other skills like carpentry or marketing there are plenty of projects available. If you're interested in helping out please contact Annie (740) 252-6295 to discuss joining her to work for a day, or set up a regular schedule to visit.
