Dear Dawn,

Together, we passed the Inflation Reduction Act last year which included the greatest investment in climate care provisions in history.

This bill is a huge step forward in helping the United States meet our climate goals, but it’s not enough. The President of the United States and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have vast authority to protect public health and cut climate pollution. 

We need the Biden administration to use every lever available to it to advance environmental justice and reduce climate pollution.

President Biden promised to cut climate pollution in half by 2030. To keep his climate promises and protect our health and our communities – especially those that have traditionally been overburdened with pollution – we need the administration to move forward on updating a number of pollution standards related to power plants, auto emissions, and oil and gas drilling. IPL expects this to be our biggest climate opportunity in 2023. 

But many of these standards that the EPA has planned to update have been delayed. We expect that in the first part of this year, we’ll see several new standards moving on similar timelines. As rules do move forward, IPL will be inviting you to submit comments to the EPA, urging them to issue the strongest, science-based rules possible.
