Dear Greenies and B&G folks,

This was in my inbox—having arrived I my inbox at 5:30 p.m. last Monday, which was 4.5 hours AFTER the first webinar began. Still there are several opportunities that might help us be even more green than we already are! How to leverage IRA funds for things like BATTERY STORAGE from power our solar panels produce! Read on.

Contributions from member congregations and individual donors make the missional work of the UUA possible.

The Inflation Reduction Act has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions up to 44% by 2030, but we need widespread implementation to hit those goals. Will UUs show up for our Earth? We know you will!
The IRA includes 30% tax credits to churches and nonprofits to implement clean energy projects, creates a new tax credit for battery storage, and provides a direct pay option for nonprofits.

The funds present a great opportunity for UUs to reduce our carbon footprint while cultivating communities of care and prioritizing climate justice. For example, congregations could install solar with backup battery storage which would enable UUs to offer our sanctuaries as shelters in climate disasters, power outages, extreme weather, etc. Now is the time to think big and broad as we consider these clean energy projects in our communities!

The UUA has partnered with Interfaith Power and Light, the Energy and Environment Study Institute and others to host informational webinars on these and related funding opportunities.

Watch the recording - Federal Funding Resources for Nonprofits and Houses of Worship

This briefing covers the benefits included in the Inflation Reduction Act and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, including the new DOE Energy Efficiency Materials Pilot Program that can help houses of worship do energy work on their facilities.
